: TracTractor Offroad's Huge Bitch Run, Jan 26th!

binderbound

I am organizing/leading a snow run Jan 26th. We roll from the Safeway in Molalla at 8am sharp. If you need directions, its the intersection of highway 211 and highway 213.

Rig requirements:
minimum 35" tire
at least 1 locker
CB
food
shovel
appropriate recovery gear
no fear of body damage
be in good enough shape to pull winch cable
not have a shitty attitude

Extra stuff thats nice to have:
Extra clothes
winch
camera
trailer

We will be heading up into the 'Goat Mt' area but going higher than the towers. Last year we got into the 5'-6' foot deep range.

This is for advanced wheelers/rigs only. If its your first time wheeling ever and you just got brand new 35's to fit on your XJ, this might not be your run.

Probably want to leave the kids at home.

I'm bringing some wood to start a fire with when we take a lunch break, you can if you want too.

We probably wont get back till late. 99% of the guys/girls who have already committed to this run are trailering, you should too.

If you show up and dont meet the above requirements, dont expect help when you get buried in the 1st 10 minutes.

Always, pack it in, pack it out.

I'm not kidding about the body damage.

Post up if your interested. Maybe some vehicle specs too.

I requested the day off work, but haven't heard back yet as the boss hasn't been in with New Year's and all. I really don't know if the Scout will make it up or not, but at the very least I plan on showing up and seeing if I can catch a bitch seat.

Unacceptable! Put a good front tire on it and get Phil to tow it for you. I think your scout would do great since its so light and what not. 35's might hold you back a little but I doubt it would be THAT big of a deal.

Well Damn, I'll do my best. Talked to the boss today and it looks like a go, but we'll have to wait and see how the schedule shakes out before it's 100%, probably the last Saturday event I'll be attending for a great while.

Liar. I dont think IH offered a 72 scout with a wide ratio T-19/D300 and 4.56'ed 44/14bolt. You can still come though.:flipoff2:

Ugly told me today that he's got the friday before the run off, so we can haul the Scout to Phil's house in Colton before the run and then I suppose I can drive it from there. How many miles are we going to be on "legal" roads before we hit not normall patrolled? Also how far are we towing up, are we going to be towing through the snow?

Hopefully there won't be any snow to tow through. Depending on turn out, we might unload at the high school and run the 2 miles of backroad. Otherwise, we unload at the gun club gate. I'm just worried that we all won't fit at the gun club. You can only fit about 12 trucks/trailers. So far the trailer count is 9.

We'll just have to see. . .

We survived the trip -- We lost a few members right in the beginning - One truck turned back between the trailers and the trail head (Ignition/EFI/power problems) - another turned back after the first big climb (Failed coiling fan).

The rest of us struggled on in heavy rain/snow/sleet/wind/ and more snow. If you weren't soaked you weren't trying :D Lots of 3500 rpm assaults at hills to break trail, lots of backing up and hitting it harder. Lots of tires at 4 - 7 psi.

It turned into a long night as two of our planned exit routes were too deep or had enough downed trees to make them impassable. So we turned back to leave the way we came.

So after turning towards home I decided I didn't like driving on 4 tires and decided to rip one almost all the way off the rim, causing a huge delay and lots of back tracking for the lead group. To make matters worse I had noticed my spare was flat when I was unloading at the start of the day, AND the only other spare that would have worked was in one of the trucks that left early. SO - we had to re-seat and inflate the bead on my spare as there was no way the tire on the truck was going to go back together without some tire tools. We tried regular air which didn't seat the bead, we switched to lighter fluid and a lighter which almost worked the 1st time, failed the second time, and started a small tire fire the third time -- But we managed to get it to work after the third time, it softened up the tire enough to make it seat and seal with some air. So we got it all back together and were back on our way -- it was dark and very wet by now.

Then we all started running out of GAS!!! :shaking: First Diesel Smoke ran out, then I ran out, then Dan ran out. We had enough gas for Diesel and I -- but by the time Dan ran out we had used up all the spare cans. So he was strapped out a fair distance - while Diesel ran into town - switched to a different Scout (with a top and heater) got a can of gas, and ran back and topped off Dan so he could drive the last few miles to the trailers on his own... At about 8:30 pm.

Not many pics as I was driving hard most of the time...

Yeah, like Uglyscout posted above, this run lived up to its name. It turned into a huge bitch. The order of shit goes... NonPirateScouter intermitant EFI issues, Jon(not on pirate) electric fan died, I broke my traction bar, Lewd lost a tire, Diesel smoke ran out of gas, Uglyscout lost a tire, Uglyscout ran out of gas, I ran out of gas. I had a great time. It was a lot of fun to be out with rigs that were prepared(except for gas:rolleyes: )and had the right attitude. It was a great feeling knowing we were on top of 4+ feet of snow at any time. I need to put my $$ down on some bead locks after watching so many tires come off the rim.

I didnt take too many pics. I was busy driving. This was the first trail of the day. You can tell I was in the same spot:laughing:

That 6BT is a real possiblity, I was saving it for my 40's something pickup project, but it would be cool in the scout.
Depends on a few things:
what i find out with the 345 heads.
How much it costs to get the injector/pump rebuilt
how much help a certain fab guy and his girlfriend are willing to provide.
if that 727 is still any good.

I'll be swinging by Rip's on thursday to chat injector's/pump's. If we go ahead with it, I will promise 8 hours a weekend. Either Saturday or Sunday, depending on the weekends events. I can also try to swing a few hours here and there during the week, business permitting. As for the 727, maybe we should have it looked at? Or atleast talk to a few tranny shops and see what the weak points/failure rate is on them. I wonder if we could get an SEA#4 bellhouse and run that T-19 behind it?:evil::grinpimp:
