Due to reasons I don't want to get into, I'm looking at replacing my G26 with something physically smaller. Since it's hot here, I'm thinking an ankle rig may be the way to go. I'm looking for a small 5 shot hammerless or concealed hammer revolver. Something similar to a Taurus 650 or 651. I'm leaning towards a .357/.38 because I think the larger calibers are going to be a bitch in the recoil department and I like to shoot my guns, not just carry it around with the same ammo in it for 15 years. So, let's here the opinions. Is .357 too small, too expensive, too much recoil for fun shooting, a terrible self defense round/etc?
edit: Just to clarify, what I'm asking is if the .357/.38 spcl round is a good self defense round, or if there is a better round that I can still shoot out of a small framed revolver without it being painful for me. :D

Most of the snub nose 5 shot revolvers don't like .357, most will do .38 +p, which I think is fine for ccw.
I don't know if one would be a great shooter, but it shouldn't be terrible. The small grips usually make long shooting sessions get old.

I carry a S&W 642, 5 shot .38 +P Shoots nice and is very light. You can upgrade to the titanium cylinder for anohter $250 I believe. I bought mine out the door for $420 with an ankle holster.

.38 special has been putting people in the ground for over a century, most of the time without high tech expanding projectiles or +p velocity. It will do just fine.

You could always get a small wheel gun chambered in .357 and shoot .38 out of it.

No. A .357 revolver can shoot .38 special and .38 Smith and Wesson.
A .44 magnum revolver can shoot .44 special.
You can go shorter in a revolver, but not longer.

I know that. I was asking for opinions on the .357/.38 and he told me that the .357 can shoot .38. Uh, I kinda already knew that!
edit: Maybe my original post wasn't clear. I'll edit it.

Smith & Wesson model 340PD.
.357 and 12 oz.
It's a handful w/some .357 loads. But, can do 5 rounds center mass in 5 seconds.
On the other end of the spectrum, my girl carries a Kel-tec P3-at. Fits her hand perfectly. Runs Corbons through it. Only .380 but she'll do two body/one head faster than most draw.
Either way, bad guy is dead.

.38 Smith & Wesson might give you trouble; it's a bigger diameter bullet.

This is my daily ccw for the past few months and I could not be happier with it's performance.:D

x2. My buddy just got one for his CCW and I have added it to my list of must haves. Fawker hurts with .357 though
