: TF999 (32RH) trans pan temp sender bung installation

I've already decided against using a T-fitting for the tranny temp sender. I will be welding a bung for the sender into a new deep pan and need to know which side of the pan has the most clearance for a bung, or at least the best side or location considering other issues I may not be aware of yet.

I can't pull the old pan off to check for clearances yet and I'd like to get the bung welded into the new deep pan ahead of time.

This is for a manual to automatic transmission conversion I'm starting in two weeks. Thanks guys.

...since it is a deep pan, there is nothing on the innards of the tranny that come down that far. I would mount it near the return line/dump, where ever that is(driver's side front corner IDB).

I did the same thing but after I finally found a bung that had the right thread pitch. It was tough to find and I couldnt get it to completly seal. There is a place on a 999 to just unscrew the thing that is in there and put the sensor in with no bung welding.

DOH! Well that makes so much sense that I now feel even more stupid than I normally am. :homer: Thanks, that helped a lot.

I looked at that and thought it was a different thread size. What couldn't you get to seal, where the bung was welded to the pan or where the sender was screwed into the bung?

Thanks guys!

I almost felt like a dick/smart ass writing that....but then I remembered "this is Pirate":p:D Did you search this? IIRC there was a thread on here a bit back that someone 'bunged their tranny pan" for a sending unit.... or you could always ask Guru Stu too... :D Post up when you finish up

no I drilled and welded a bung in the pan but the threads didnt seal for some reason. But the is a fitting on the side of the tranny that you can pull out and screw the sender right in.

Autometer sells weld in bungs for their mechanical gauges. They come either steel or aluminum, or even metric if needed. Just drill the hole, weld it, schmear some JB weld on the inside along the weld seam and let it rip. I did this very trick on my custom chrome pan on the C6 and it doesn't leak a drop. I did position the bung so that it's more or less under the cooler return and a close to the oil pickup as possible.

Very cool, thanks for the help guys. And yep I did search Whytwezl but didn't find exactly what I needed.
