I am trying to remove my fan and pulley assemblies to access my timing gear cover (1985 4.2L motor)....I have all my belts off and radiator off, and also have off the 4 nuts that appear to secure the fan/clutch assembly. The fan/clutch will not budge. My thought was to drive something between the flat mounting plate that is on the 4 bolts and the pulleys themselves to try to seperate them. Does this sound correct, or is there some other trick to removing this stuff? I think they may just be old and rusted together....

As long as the four bolts/nuts are removed, it should come off. More than likely it is just siezed together. Stick a block of wood in from the back side to beat on.

Hi, there is a steel dowel pin on the W/P flange that centers the F/C and they can be a PITA. Try tapping(easy does it) the fan clutch housing with a wood block.
Good luck,

Agreed. Spray some PB blaster in their a few hours before you tap.

Thanks guys -
I did end up getting it, sprayed it liberally w blaster, and slowly wedged a flathead screwdriver around the outside till it popped off. Thanks!
