what year is it?? what model?? i have been reading that these are for off road use only or agricultural use?? i guess i was misunderstanding it. i would love to buy one, but i dont think my parents would want one of these in front of the house. so are there only certain models that are street legal or what, do all of you guys drive them on the street??

Only Agg (Agricultural models) can not me drivine on the streets in SOME STATES. They are basically the same rig with diff implements on them as far as I understand.
All of them are SLOWWWW on road... 55 top on flat land with a down sloap and a tail wind u might say.
Mine is a 62.. but modified with a turbo diesel 300.. supposidly a great performance boost... guess Ill find out soon

because the mog maxed out at 55 and that was the best it could do probably averaged somewhere in the high forties low 50s.

Mog still in NY
:mad3: :crybaby2: :mad2:
clutch went out... looking at a 2 grand repair job. Yeahhh thats right... You have to remove the cab to get to the tranny. Very labor instensive. One of the BIGGG selling points to me on this purchase was that the tranny was rebuilt... well so I was told. I knew from reading up on mogs that tranny work was a hugee undertaking.
oh well... credit card maxxxxxed out nowwwwww...
I try the trip again around July 22 on my week off.

man, that's shitty. have you talked to the people you bought it from?? I'd be :mad3: :mad3: :mad3: . Tranny work on the 404s is definitely a PITA! That's another plus i think to the diesel mogs, you can get at stuff without taking the whole truck apart.

The parts are pretty cheap to do a clutch job. Instead of paying $2000 for the job you should see how many moggers are out in that area and see if they'd be willing to lend some time/help. I'm sure that you could pursuade some with  to help out.
The clutch is a job that we will all have to do sooner or later and its a good chance to learn how to do them at the same time.
Later.

I was quoted 400 dollars in parts for clutch parts alone.... is this way off? He said he is not marking up parts cost at all. Scrott Ingram.. you out there? What do clutch parts run?
There is one mog about two hours from me.. I got the feeling he is not much of a wrencher but I may be way off base on that. The next mogger is two hours another direction.. and the next is maybe 5 - 8 hours into NY and Northern PA and about 8-10 hours south into KY. Since I have never met any of these moggers personaly yet.. IIIIII dont know if I would feel right asking for help.
Now if I shipped it here... there is 500 to 800 dollars.. a quater to a third of the cost of having it done professionaly spent with out any repair done so.. I dont know...
Ship it.
I'd happily come out from Cleveland to help do the clutch. And I'm sure a handful of Pitt guys would come out as well.
Hell, it's a clutch... how hard can it be? :D

Heya,
Some guy a little while ago posted instructions on how to do the clutch job without removing the cab.. (on the mog topica board).. you should read up on it. As for getting the mog home, why don't you just go out, rent a uhaul truck and trailer for the day and tow it home? Sounds like you got burned on your mog purchase. Hope it was cheap :p

I too found the non remove cab instructions recently. Thanks.
What uhaul trailer will hold a mog? All the trailers I have seen are not big enough wiht out driving over the wheels of the trailer and damaging the fenders of the trailer or falling off the trailer. Granted I have not looked recent. Just saw this as a problem since the trailer it was towed to NY on had special ramps built beside the trailer fenders to avoid this.

Standard uhaul car trailer as long as your mog doesn't have oversize wheels.. there was a guy who had his radio truck break down in our area and he just rented a uhaul truck and trailer and towed it the 300 miles he needed to go.. take some measurements and you'll see it will fit fine. Just not recommended you tell the uhaul guys what you are using it for.

my tape measure is long enough to measure the width of the rig.. but not quite long enough to stretch the 400 miles from here to where the truck still is. :D If I dont like the way things are going Ill go the Uhaul route...What Ill do to fix the the rig here I dont know.
One reason I am having the work done at Unomogs East in NY is because I bet there is absolutely NO 4wd shop in this part of OH thats ever seen a Unimog, and of cource because thats right by where it broke down. Hell where I live their is only two 4wd shops in a 50 mile radious and one of them FAWKEDDDDD my TJ up reaaallll bad. I mean the BUTCHERD and Atlas II install.
I work 10 hour days and often its 6 or 7 day weeks so I dont have the energy to get into wrenching much less the time. So I choose to use shops and at times myself and friends will go at it when money is tight. (which is way to often) Not to many friendsy yet though.. only lived here just less than a year.
The idea behind wheeling is to be an ecscape into the woods and rocks etc. away from the grind and unwind with friends and the challenges the trail provides. The scenery is a wonderfull added bonus. Now I have to travel farther to find wheeling spots... thus.. my Unimog becomes my Expedition rig. It will be used on my week long vacation I get each year. Assuming I get it running good enough for that.
