God damn muther fawking piece of flaming dog shiat!

sorry had to vent.

Third alternator just shit the bed (in less than a year and 1000miles). I am sure I am doing something wrong but I don't care to figure it out (it is only three wires (all replaced) so I don't see how but I quit) One charged at 18-20volts and the other two won't charge. I am guessing they are just poor napa rebuilds.

On the upside my battery will go for at least a month without charging. The series starts so quickly you do not even hear the starter turn and it draws all of 1 amp or so when driving.

Anyone got a decent generator. I have one somewhere but I can't find it. SII preferred (I am fanatic) but an SIIa will do for now. Need the top bracket as well bolt would be cool too.

i have a bunch :D

dunno of condition, they are all on parts trucks that i havent tested. i think i may even have one off of an earlier IIA ('63) if that matters?

i have all the brackets too.

Can you fire one up and see if it charged? I will send you a nice pic of andy jackson. The one I am particluarly after is the C40 (i think have to check) I think 63 might be too late but at this point i don't care.

I am using an internally regulated 10si delco. 63 amps.

At one point I am fairly sure it worked right, at least for a little bit.

If the generator does not work i am going for a one wire self exciting alternator.

Speaking of the old Lucas Prince of Darkness - did you guys know that lucas had a brief period where it manufactured vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they ever made that didnt suck.

And of course they invented the intermittently working windscreen wipers - my range rover had one of these.

And then theres the one about the Land Rover engineer that went on a study tour to Japan and was looking through the Toyota factory. At the end of the day the toyota engineer threw a cat into a land cruiser and locked the door. The LR engineer asked what he was doing and the Toy eng. said it was to test the dust sealing in the rig. He said that the cat should soffucate (sp?) and be dead by morning. Sure enough the next morning the cat was dead. The LR engineer was impressed.

Upon returning back to the Rover factory the LR eng thought he would use some of his knew found knowledge and test a new Land Rover 110 Defender Extreme for its dust sealing. He found a cat and threw in and locked all the doors. When he came back the next morning the cat was gone.

i dunno if i could test it, cause the trucks dont run! oh yeah and its not at my house anyways, its in the next town over at a garage :D

so keep looking around for one, and if you dont find one then maybe by then i will have had a chance to get it running and test the voltage.

good luck
