: Depriming on the run

For lame reasons I will not go into :flipoff2: I need to be able to DEPRIME and prime on the run. What I really want is a handheld primer with the ability to deprime as well. Anybody ever seen anything like this? Only thing I have found is the Lee handloader kit but I need both 38 and 45...

I guess an option is this with a universal decapping die? Then have a seperate hand primer loader?

I have the lee auto primer and I love it. its much faster than priming on my press. The de-primer looks like it might be a bit hard to operate. Re-sizing the brass requires a good bit of leverage

OK, I will fess up

I am doing this to reprime Speer plastic training bullets at my buddies homes. We are constantly have ICOSY matches (I Can Out Shoot You) in the garage and half my buddies dont have reloading stuff :grinpimp:

So you see my apprehesion in spending around 50 or 60 bucks to do this. Why can somebody make a hand held deprimer for 10 bucks  I dont need to resize the brass!

The tool in your first link is fairly large and requires the use of 2 hands to operate, so it`s out.
The hand primer in your second link is useable with one hand and actualy does a good job for a Lee tool. There are several different hand primers on the market and most do a decent job, but its been a long time since I`ve seen anyone offer a handheld decaping tool. I`d call Midway and see if they can find you something.

If thats all your doing, stick a 1/16" punch in the primer hole and knock the other end of the punch on something solid. The primers will come right out of the plastic cases, I know this `cause it`s the method I use. :D

Do that and buy the lee auto prime.

I have a Lee hand press just for decapping. Pictured with a box of .44 for reference. I do everything after priming on the bench, but I like to decap and resize right after I shoot so my brass is ready to clean and reuse.

If you do decide to resize with it, use "Imperial case sizing wax" a 2oz. tin of sizing wax will last you a long time. If you try to use a hand press without case lube it's not hard, but it is cumbersome even using carbide dies. With case lube it's a cinch to use. The case lube makes all the difference.

X2 on the Lee auto-prime for priming. Don't forget it takes special shellholders. Safety note: Lee specifically warns against using it with Federal brand primers.

Cost breakdown:
Lee hand press, $20
Universal Decapping die ,$7
Hornady sure-loc die locknut (because lee lock nuts suck), $3
Shellholders for .38 and .45, 2 at $2ea
Lee Auto Prime, $11
2nd Lee Auto Prime (optional, so you don't have to switch back and forth between Lg and Small primer), $11
Special shellholders for Auto prime, 2 at $2 ea
Case sizing wax (optional), $7
Primer pocket cleaner (optional)
Primers $3 per 100

You do the math.

There is a hand held deprimer on You Tube called the Harvey Deprimer.

Keith, how long do those plastic bullets last? I am betting until they get lost but you never know.
