Here is my new RIA Tactical 1911. Going to go shoot it later on today, will post up range report. It will be my CCW.

For a carry piece I'd think about some checkered grips. Makes it easier to hang on to. Nice piece though. :smokin:

nice pistol. i've heard that smooth grips are nice because they don't chafe or what have you. i dunno.

Very nice, but I'd suggest putting a bunch of rounds through it before you trust your life to it as a carry weapon. At the minimum run 500 rounds of all kinds of ammo, especially the kind you intend to carry in it every day. Spend the money on good, reliable mags too.

Good buy.

I will be getting my CHL in February. So the gun will get all kinds of ammo ran through it before i qualify and carry. As far as the grips, i will have to shoot it before i know if i want to change them or not.

An aftermarket extractor and magazines and you should be fine.
From what I have seen so far the RIAs would also benefit from a ramp&pollish

I have a GI model ria that is in the proccess of being converted into something of a "tactical." so far I have done a trigger job, put a commander hammer and beavertail saftey on it, changed the trigger to a short one, all new wolff spring kit and put a new set of hogue aluminum grips on it. here's a picture of it as it sits. only thing left to do is install the novak style adjustable sights that I got for christmas and I think it will be good to go.

How do you like the RIA compared to a colt or kimber 45?
i had a chance to get one for 300 at one time but turned it down since i never heard of them.

I have heard mixed reviews on the kimber, but I have never personally shot one so I can't coment. I have had VERY limited use of a colt so not much to say about that either. I HAVE shot a charles daly quite a bit and it seemed to have a few feeding issues while I was shooting it. as far as my ria I have about 100 rounds through it at this point without a single feeding issue, the only problem I have had was self induced (not enough engagement of sear to hammer hooks=followdown=rapidfire  that was fun). overall the gun is pretty tight and hits POA well, I'm impressed for the little money I had to put out for it.

I think it's horseshit that you pay $1000+ for a Kimber pistol and those cheap bastards don't have the decency to give you two fucking mags with it. That, and they don't perform any better than a $600 Springfield. For $400 more, the damn thing should go bang every time, and give me a blowjob and a ham sandwich after every range trip.

I've had Kimber owners and Kimber dealers tell me how unhappy they were with Kimber. I would only buy one with the intention of making it a safe queen and nothing more.

But then again, I'm just a guy on the internet that's never owned a Kimber himself, so don't go by what I say.
