I'm looking for a little more wheelbase for the YJ and need some input from people who run both in fairly mild rig. Its a 95 yj soa with waggys in the front and ome yjs in the rear. 4.3/700r/231 with hp44/9in. I know the link mounts will be fairly easy on the rear with the 9" housing but the leafs would be considerably cheaper. I have a set of xj front coils laying around if I four link it. I know i would rather have coilovers but thats not happening. If I'm going to go that route I'll just build a buggy. Any input would be appreciated.

The first set of leaves will be cheaper. After breaking my second set I decided to link it. Mine broke from over compression due to not having bump stops.

move the rear springs back by moving the front mounts further back on the frame rail and the shackle mounts on the bumper (make a bumper if you don't have one yet). cheapest/easiest way to stretch

This is not an "input" question. Either you have the money or you don't....is what it really comes down too. XJ leafs will never be what a coil/link suspension will be. Nor will moving the YJ leafs back. Or any standard leaf spring setup for that matter. So you have to decide.....how much do you want to spend. Yes, coils/links are more expensive....but you get what you pay for. More flex, more power to the ground, better ride. HOWEVER....there is something to be said about leafs. Cheap, easy to replace, less setup.
With all that said, I have XJ leafs on the back.....for over a year now...and still running the same pack. OEM Crown leaf packs, with an added main. I had them on 37's for about 9 months...and 42's for the rest of it. Traction bar is key to longevity. Recently I had enough cash to get links/coils.....and decided to get ARB's. Plain and simple....the leafs do what I need out of them, and no hassles. I chose to strengthen my axles.
Bottom line, chose what you want to spend and live within that budget. If you only want to afford leafs....just make the best leaf suspension you can and go from there. If you have the extra cash to do coils....by all means...you won't be disappointed there either.

I have XJ leafs in the back of my TJ and added an extra main and then mil wraped. They work Great on the rocks, but SUCK on the road. The long dirt road going out of pritchet beats the fuck out of me...
I will link it in the back when funds are available.

Started with XJ leafs but upgraded to links and coilovers when I had cash. If you have the money due it right the first time. The ride on leafs does bring the suck
