Are the cone washers up and out?

Seriously, some folks have had good luck in hitting the SIDE of the steering arms and getting the cone washer to pop out. Personally I use a brass drift about 3" long. Leave the nuts on, but loosened. Place brass drift on top of the stud. SMACK the brass drift with a hammer... suddenly the cone washers just "pop" up.

If the arms haven't been removed in 20 years, I have had luck in spraying everything with pentrating oil and letting it soak overnight. Then tapping, using a brass drift, and suddenly they all popped loose.

IF the cone washers are ALL OFF, my personal trick is to remove the lower knuckle bearing first. Shaking the hell out of the knuckle, I can get it to drop off. Once off, I use a 12" long drift to "tap" the bottom side of the steering arm... and up pops the steering arm. The arm to knuckle has a pretty tight machined clearance you can not just "pry" the steering arm off.

Two pieces of brass, and my 6 hour job became a 2 hour job! :p
Local shop just has the right touch to tap the side of the steering arm with a hammer, and up comes the arm. Not too hard, just enough rapping while pulling on it, to get it loose. For me the "brass drift" trick works best!

i can also say that this method works...after all, when i was taking apart my mini hub, these guys were the ones to tell me the exact same thing!! (perhaps the search button?) not trying to be cocky but its probly there.

A tip is to hit them few times but very hard.
