Here is a quick little thread I will start. I scored some Used poison spider rocker guards for a YJ.

the Idea is, I will cut off my fugly guards (which saved me from rollin many times), install these guards, then use the metal from my first guards to build off the poisen spider ones.
Some pics:

start mock up

I will add some plate metal to the front off the guard. then I will use the old rockers as a way to "extend" the reach about 3-5 inches out. maybe more.

Oh yea: I have a 1-3/16" socke resting between the frame and body to allow easy slip on and off of the rocker. I will do all my tacking while in position. I will pull the guard assembly off to burn the final welds in(I still suck at welding at crazy positions. Still learning)

Any ideas any one?

got alot done last night.

I started by adding a little metal to the front and rear section of the guard:

then I got to work on my extension legs for the bar:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i183/jpfrk/DSC00896.jpg

I then tacked em into position:

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i183/jpfrk/DSC00898.jpg

I then removed the guard and set it up to measure and cut and mount my bar to the legs. I then went ahead and burned it all in since I was happy with what I made. After that, I mounted the guard back on and looked at my first creation with metal

Im thinking of adding some small gussets on each leg on the top side wich would also give me a level surface on the top side. I have to copy this and start the other side today.

I will do some more cleaning up and add some paint to the mix. What color you all want to see?:D

What you all think?

Dude, no offence..but I think that the blunt end of that rocker guard is going to snag on everything. You need to cut those spacers down to a fraction of the size and put a return on both ends of your square tubing. And if you were adding on steel anyway, why wouldn't you armor it all the way to your front wheel well opening??
Good luck

the blunt end is much higher up then before. If I am snaggin on that, then I am in a serious FUBAR situation. Before that end was about 2 inches lower then now. And I want the ends to stick out to keep me from rollin over and still move along the trail. And this is just temporaray and better then what I had before.

On another note:
I finished the other side today. Pics will be posted tomorrow.

Still the question stands... what color do you all want to see?

My rig is based on White and Black/ YinYang/ Balance. . .

But I am willing to change it up an notch. Im thinking of something that screams "Look At Me! !"

Input?

If I do have enough material left, I will look at tying the ends to the plate to make it look better. But we will see

I'd run another piece of square on the front of that to the rocker (to cover up that blunt end sticking out), and build something that runs under it the length of the rocker.

Electric Lime Green? Plum Crazy? Candy Apple Red?

Why spend the money? It will be gone after three wheeling trips. Rattlecan black seems to make the most sense for easy touch up later.:p

I still totally fail to see how rocker guards prevent a rollover. They are designed to prevent hang ups and protect your rocker panel. They would have to stick out 4 feet, to even have a chance at preventing a rollover. And yeah, if you plan to wheel in a flat open field, the chances of those hanging up on anything are nil, but if you are ever going to consider wheeling on a tight trail bordered by trees, and rocks...without returns on that square tubing you have hanging way out there, you will snag shit. Maybe in the end they will prevent a rollover when your about to go over and your rocker guard jumps out and wraps itself around a vine. I understand it's your first fabricating experience and you're stoked...you should be. They will work...I'm just trying to offer some advice for the next set you build. I don't mean to shit on your design, but WTF. School of tuff love. Paint em' brown.
In fact, if you so desire, I could email you pictures of a way more simple, stout and functional design that will cost no more than $30 in steel and you obviously have a welder.
Good luck

I'll look at it today and see what I can do with what I have left

Building these comes from my first experience at the Hammers. Its seems Im trying to build my jeep in a way to handle the hammer trails on a daily basis. So there where many times im at a serious side angle, resting on my other rocker guards, and STILL be able to work through the obstacle. My spotter said, If I didn't have the guards, I would tip on my side. Im not afraid to be on my side. Its already happened once. I just want the ability to try and drive through it. thats what these guards allow me to do.

BTW, those small tires are NOT my trail tires( unless I want to go out and make it tougher for me on purpose, which I have done)

38's-40's are in the works. 36's in the backyard on another set of rims currently

I was actually thinking of the color Lime Green as well. I will see what Home Depot has this week.

I have until mid February to get this done as well as other details on the jeep.

Replace motor mount
Fab up a better tranny torque mount
order new rear U-bolts and install
order new slip yoke for rear shaft

I might install my fuel cell and pump? still debatin it. the stock one is still good. I hate to mess with something that still works:D

X2. I think it sticks a bit too far out for my preference.

As far as paint, rattle can black, or for a tougher paint hammered finish black. Remember thatyou will keep scrathing them up (that is what they are there for), so rattle can semi glosss is cheap and easy.

Cut em off and boatside that bitch, trust me. If you keep em though, I think they stick out too far and you will get hung up on them.

Let me get some practice first in the easy fabbin depo before I step up to doin a full buggy chassis w/boatsides.

When I am comfy with the easy stuff, I will step it up a notch. Don't worry. This Jeep will get a serious knifing in the future real soon(If I don't get shipped out for a year:shaking:)

So Im sticking to easy stuff. they actually stick out the same distance as before but about 2 inches higher up. Im also going off of my last experience at the hammers(Outer limits ate my lunch then shove it up my ass that day)

home depot has this color

after a year of abuse
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p220/husslr187/alexbackyardbeating1006.jpg

its rustolium floresent green, it has a weird label design with a skateboard and such on it, but before you put this color on put two coats of flat white on that way you wont have to put 20 coats of green on to make it bright

also you dont want to leave out in the sun all the time as it will fade, i keep a canvas tarp over mine when im not using it and its still as bright as the day i painted it but the d ring on my rear bumper is a very dull light blue/green
i also notice that it chips as well but that might be that it was 40 degrees when i painted it

With your old design the blunt end started much further forward, thats why you got away with them not catching anything. With them starting much further back on the tub they are more likely to grab shit. I used to have a similar setup, the end started only about 2 inches behind the fender flare and it grabbed all kinds of shit and was quickly reworked with round tube that was bent to terminate against the body, this works much better. Same can be done with the square tube you will just have to do a miter cut instead of a bend.

I will think of something to add to the forward tube in a way to create some sort of angle to allow a "sliding" effect on the rocks with reinforcement. I have enough spare metel to make it happen. But im in so rush.
