: well... what do you think?
I joined this board in february hoping that it would increase my
chances of finding a suitable cruiser and then buying it by my
birthday... today...
but to no avail, i have found nothing... so i go to ebay motors on
a whim and find this....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1840402383
what do you think? would it be easy to find a hardtop? do you
think it's worth $4,500?
thanx

Polarweasel 06-29-2002, 04:25 PM "No electrical problems", but the gauges don't work. Cute.
It looks to be in a lot better shape than mine, but I wouldn't dream of buying a vehicle sight unseen. Go look at it and see what you think.
Oh, and happy birthday! :flipoff2:
Now go drink a few
Panzer 06-29-2002, 04:40 PM I agree with Pweasel, Looks good but don't by nothin sight unseen.
See if some on the board up north is willing to check it out for you.

cruiserbrett 06-29-2002, 04:43 PM Happy B-day!!!
Be patient with the cruiser hunting. I can tell you I have bought on more than one occasion what I thought was a good deal only to be shocked by what comes by next. Can work against you, but there are ALOT of nice cruisers out there now that the price boom is dying off with the DOT.com crap.
Good luck.
About the truck:
Why is the P/S not finished? bracket issues I would guess.
Wiring: takes a lot of work to unf*ck some dimwitted P/O wiring "fixes"
Rust: I have NOT ever seen a really truly rust free cruiser, and often many owners dont give a really honest so beware, and if a cruiser is 90% rust free, does that mean 10% of the metal is rusted? Cause that would be a LOT-more than many trucks that would be cut up for scrap have.
engine:Stock is best if you are looking for an unmolested truck. Many(too many thatI have seen) V8 conversions have been done with a budget that clearly did not plan on finishing the job properly so beware of crappy and completely unsafe jobs. I have been amazed some people were not killed in some of the contraptions I have seen. Also figure on twice as many miles on the conversion as stated unless they can really prove the actual...
Conversion by you: figure on twice your major parts cash outlay to finish the conversion. Not a single conversion I have ever heard of or done was finished at budget...the little things can creep up and kill the budget...And smog, CHECK your local and state laws for it. Compliance can be a bit tricky...

muddogbob 06-30-2002, 12:35 AM Hey, I live about 10 min away from Kennewick Wa. If you want, I would be happy to go over and take a look at it for you. I don't own a fj40 (I have a fj62), but i'm a member of Eastern Washington Land Cruiser Association, and I could try to get one of the many fj40 owners to take a look also. Just let me know.
i would only have you do it if it is of absolutely no inconvienience...
it doesn't sound like it's that fabulous, but if you would just
happen to be in the area or something.. it would be great... i live
in No. cali so transporting it alone would be the first feat, let alone
the condition of the truck...

larryboy 06-30-2002, 08:48 AM the cruiser(i don't know them well so itsa fj something?) has a tbi 350,nv4500 trans, sprung over,38's i think, pwr steering, rock sliders, can't remember the axles....i think they were 8 lug,he ran out of $$$ and wants to sell to go to college. $13,500. i can get the # off his for sale sign monday if you want.:usa:
thank you... but that's far too much... my range is more around
$5000... thanx fer your help though...
-LCL
BTW... I think the problem with all the dot comers sellin they're
rigs is that they are all B2B'ed and expect to get back what they
put in..... :barf:
More and more are going for sale though... here's two more on
ebay than there were from yesterday...
not interested in this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dllViewItem&item=1840207145
but i just figured someone would know who owns it... there's
some wack front end fab tho... kinda weird...
and this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dllViewItem&item=1840528914
looks really clean... hard top w/ full doors, and soft top w/ half
doors... i'm confused as to why it says Elko, Nevada and Salt Lake
region ... I would love to know how much they wanted
for it, didn't get to it b4 the first bid I guess...
thanx for the help

orangefj45 06-30-2002, 10:23 PM patience LCL! you'll find a pretty clean one for $5k. you should call james, he's a cool guy and the money from the sale will go towards getting his fj55 built the way he wants it!;)
helocat 06-30-2002, 10:32 PM LCL, if you pick up the WA 40, swing buy Portland OR on the way back to CA. I need to sell of my 79' Hard top, I just know I am going to ball it up one of these weekends.
Mark
weldpro 06-30-2002, 10:39 PM Theres one in the for sale section right now looks pretty damn good for the price. It'll probably be on the second page by now.
Good luck,
weldpro
I belive he's down your way too!:D
dog walker 06-30-2002, 11:38 PM Do you look in the Sac Bee? There are always a few reasonable priced FJ40's in there every week. And they are generally in the Sacramento area.

You can get the Sacramento Bee at your local 7Eleven! The on-line classifieds for the Bee are now posted to Cars.com, which is a drag, as this is a shitty site to surf and find anything good.
ahh.... das kwazy! sorry :p i had to do that... guess i'll have to go
pick one up...

bernefj60 07-02-2002, 09:25 AM Don't know where you're located, but i know of one in particular in Colorado that is a good candidate.
PM me and i'll give you the details. I just spent about a month looking and finally found one. Judging from the one you liked on ebay, your willing to start with something a little rougher than i was. This one in colorado is in better shape than that one but still needs a little work.
Let me know if you're interested and i'll send you the info.

Mud Guppie 07-02-2002, 11:13 AM but to no avail, i have found nothing... so i go to ebay motors on
first off " I hope I don't know the owner "
second, that Cruiser isn't worth that type of coin (atleast not up here)
rear shackles, front bumper, 3 speed etc all take away from the value not to mention the crappy 1970 harness, steering column, brakes
the parts for doing a 3 speed V8 conversions are worth nothing up here. 4 speed V8 conversions are way more $$$ for parts and have a lot better re sale price
alright... great, thanx for the help... i don't think i'd ever get
anythin off of ebay...
a guy just called me about a cruiser...
it's a '73 that runs, but needs a valve job (burnt valve)...
pretty much stock besides larger shackles and a couple other
minor things... it has the hardtop and minor rust in a few spots,
tan in color...
his name is Mark Edwards and live in Livermore... anyone know
him or can vouch for the condition of the cruiser?
how difficult or expenisive would a valve job be?
thanx
-LCL
BTW, i am goin to tahoe for the 4th so y'all better be there :usa:
EDIT: Does anyone know a good mechanic in the Livermore area?
if so, why are they good? i dont wanna get someone's brother-in-
law that they're tryin to help out :D
can anyone offer any insight before i head towards tahoe for the
big 4th of july celebrations? :usa:
-LCL
last post! one more thing... before i tell you how much he's asking
for it, how much do you think it's worth?
-LCL
not goin for that one... a guy called me that lives north of
susanville with a much better offer... i'm gonna have a bit of a
trip ahead of me tho....
