Anyone have a rear winch in their SII? How did you mount it? Move the gas tank? Cut the floor? Remove the tailgate? Post up please. Pics as well if you can.

I've started but not finished a rear winch plate for an M8000. Picture an "L" laid on its back. It mounts to the bottom of the frame rails and turns up at the flimsy rear cross piece. The winch will sit above the plate, between the frame rails. I'm going to cut the cross piece to allow the winch cable to come through. I've also clocked the end of the winch so that the clutch engagement lever (when extended) will pass through the rear, vertical winch plate for easier access. I mounted the solenoid to the inside rear of the bed. I've got a cabtop so access to it is not a problem.

I've given up on the idea of moving the gas tank forward for clearance. I'm going to put a fuel cell or tank in the bed against the bulkhead. Again, the cabtop may make this more feasible than a full top.

I have one battery dedicated to the front and rear winches that goes through a Perko switch to select the winch. The 2/0 cables are run in the gap between the bottom of the floor and the "brace" thing. Shorting due to rubbing shouldn't be a problem as it is a fiberglass tub.

Sorry no pictures now. Maybe in a couple of weeks. I'm also using the winch plate as a location to mount the rear shackle holders for the outboard springs for the 14-bolt.

Just a note. I do have a body lift so clearance for the winch is not a problem. Although, there is not enough clearance for the M12000.

Hope that gives you some ideas.
