: What is the ultimate rock crawling tire??
Jeepmangled87 06-29-2002, 05:40 PM SO what is the Ultimate all around best tire? Is it the MTR, the new Crawler BFG's, or the good trusty bias ply Swamper? I guess Ill throw in the others, but I dont think they stand a chance, The Mickey Thompson Baja claw, and Pro comp X-terrain. :skull:
CJ5-Man 06-29-2002, 06:22 PM depends what size your runnin, but I think TSL SX and TSL's
I think you pretty much have to have beadlocks on swampers to get everything out of them. Something I'll be lookin into shortly
Supergper 06-29-2002, 06:37 PM I think to each his own...:D
Although I have been very impressed with the new BFG Crawlers and would love to have a set but I guess I will just have to wait:D

reddwarf 06-29-2002, 09:23 PM You guys are full of crap. Everyone knows Ground Hawgs and Uniroyal Laredo MT's are the ultimate rock tires.
Wonder why noone has mentioned Boggers.....
SeaBass44 06-29-2002, 09:41 PM Boggers:cool: :smokin:
fatkid 06-29-2002, 10:14 PM Boggers
DavidT. 06-29-2002, 10:23 PM SSRs fo' sho'....:rasta: :nuke:
big bad Jeepster 06-29-2002, 10:59 PM ummmmmm I smell boggers!!!:D
Im4yotas 06-29-2002, 11:22 PM Boggers suck. They have no lateral traction...with the exception of Fatty's:D I'd say the best I've seen are grooved SX's. But I run MTR's (it's a DD thing;) ).
Strange Rover 06-30-2002, 12:43 AM Funny how lots of people say boggers have no lateral traction. But shiat, Ill tell you what when I get my tsl on a side slope they fall down hill like theres no tomorrow and its got nothing to do with traction of the tread.
IMO if you run big tyres (beadlocked) at low pressures (like less than 5psi) then they are going to suck on side slopes. And thats only because of the side wall flex and not traction.
When I hade 36in tyres running 8psi they were fine on side slopes now I got 42s running 3psi they are just plain useless on side slopes and if I had boggers I bet they would be no different. Maybe if I had 10psi in them then the shape of the tread might make a difference but at 3-5psi lateral grip will suck no matter what.
IMO the best rockcrawling tire is something that is big and wide and doesent have a incredibly stiff sidewall - I say 44in boggers. If you can fit then run them. :flipoff2:

From running both I will definately say the TSLs are a better rock tire than the Bogger.

I never said TSL had lateral traction, either. I said that the best I've seen is grooved SX's.
Oh, and the guys at the comp didn't seem to be running real low pressures. Too much risk of losing the inner bead. I don't remember any boggered rig making my course:confused:
But hey, I could be wrong. Let me think. What were most competitors running...a few had boggers, which didn't work well for them, a lot had MTR's, a lot had SX's and TSL's. I even saw a guy with the new 44" Interco STS - denied.

you kinda make it sound like it's all the tire:laughing:    I will either buy some 38x11 bofggers next or 38x14.50 sx's or 39,5x15 tsl's depends if new or used:D

I used to run ssr's and then went to boggers. Didn't know they could get any better than the boogers.

No it's definatly not all tire. Most of it is your line, and how fast or slow you go. But, after watching boggers fail over and over, and others kept making it, there's no doubt in my mind that the tires play a crucial role in bad spots.
But if you're set on buying bofgers, and they work for you, I'm not gonna tell you not do get em. I might suggest you groove them, though:beer:
1RUSTYRIG 06-30-2002, 08:59 PM I put MT/R's on my '43 MB and they have done nicely...If I had the room for 35's, I would have gone with the X-terrain's. My Uncle slid the X-Terrain's under his rig and they did an awesome job on the trail this spring. Great on the rocks and FREAKING AWESOME on snow. The road driving is a little tough though.
Garza 06-30-2002, 09:05 PM 22" Trailready beadlocked MoMo's, on Zumitomo tires, and they gotta be runflat :flipoff2:
reddwarf 06-30-2002, 09:27 PM BF Goodrich Long Trail TA's must be pretty good, or GM wouldn't put them on the TrailBlazer:rolleyes:

I might do that;) I want to sell them to go bigger though:p :p :p
rockhog 07-01-2002, 07:07 AM I have ran about everything on my rigs and I would have to say
that I have been the most satisfied with my grooved and siped
boggers. On a heavy rig , I think they work killer. Rocks, mud,
snow and sand. Its all about air pressure and vehicle weight.
wngrog 07-01-2002, 07:11 AM I thought it was funny at ProRock Farmington when I heard Don Robbins telling Tracy Jordan that he loved running behind him while Tracy was running the BFG Krawlers because they left a layer of rubber on the rocks since they were that soft competition compound.
He said "I love following you because you leave that Gooey ass soft rubber on all the hard lines to help me out."
If was funny.
