: Welding in the spreaders

I think I have this fairly well decided as to how I want to go about welding in the spreaders for my cage, but let me just bounce this off a few folks. The A and B pillar hoops on my XJ are being tied in together with a straight spreader on either side that runs parallel to the top of the driver and passenger windows. The problem is, the front hoop had to be narrower than the B pillar hoop so that I could still get my foot on the clutch pedal, access the light switches, pull the dash, etc. Sooo, the spreaders aren't right up against the side of the window there. They are actually 5.5" toward the center of the roof. This should be fine from a structural standpoint, correct? There are two more spreaders coming in the center of the roof and meeting at the B pillar in the center to triangulate. As far as I am concerned, this should provide plenty of strength. Sorry, no pics but I will see if I can get a camera and up them later.

Anyway, is it fine to run the outermost spreaders 5.5" away from the edge of the roof, or should I be thinking of some way to tie those in? Thanks.

60 views and nobody has any input? :flipoff2:

Come on guys, throw some shit my way. I'll be welding it all up in the next hour.

To the top with you :p

It sounds like the spreaders will end up right over your head. Can you bend them to give yourself a little more head room? Here is a pic of where mine ended up.

Actually they end up just a bit to the left of my head, just about in the same location as yours actually. I don't suppose you have any more shots of that cage I could take a look at? Mine should be finished today, but I'm interested in seeing other internals on an XJ.

Here are a couple more pics of mine. I still need to install a dash bar and a shoulder bar for some harnesses.

I still want to see that thing when its done... Hurry up dammit!

I need to get a ram, lines and fittings and then I am ready to lay into the front stuff - High steer is done except for the ram mount on the arm, I also need a inner pass axle...

Pics maybe in a while.

Quit rubbing it in Matt :flipoff2:

I was hoping to be done by Sunday. I ripped it all out of the Jeep and tacked it together in the garage to check fit, angles, etc. and then prep it all. All of the cutting and notching is done except for 2 tubes for the driver and passenger side lower triangular bracing. Just need to paint it and weld it in place. You were right...I ended up pulling the headliner. Welding the cage inside a closed top Jeep is a bitch and a half.

Hey, I'm free in August. We should hit some trails before I move :D

BTW, I need some info on your OBA again. I need to get some of those sweet braided SS lines made up and need to know all of the sizes, etc. PM bitch :flipoff2:
