: Need tranny mnt info.....
rokcrln 06-29-2002, 11:20 PM I just finished my tranny mount/ skid pan for my EB w/NV4500 and atlassII and in twenty miles the mount was toast. What I used for the mount was the chev 350 auto style. It fits great and does not hang down very much, but that all does me no good when it tears in to. Do they make that type that won't seperate or is their a better way to go? Please help I have four days till we leave for the con! Thanks
rochog 06-29-2002, 11:44 PM did you use the rubber one or the poly. I thank that the poly one would hold up better. IMO:smokin:
rokcrln 06-29-2002, 11:54 PM It was just the rubber one. When you say the polly would hold up better do you mean like 25 or 30 miles:D
rochog 06-30-2002, 12:15 AM I was thinking more like 31:flipoff2: you should get more miles than that, maybe the volconizing was bad?
High5 06-30-2002, 06:19 AM does the mount you use normally utilize a troque arm? i know that some vehicles (jeps cj's for sure) use a torque arm that bolts under the mount and sticks out to the drivers side from there (being a ford t-case setup it may go to the pass side). this arm attaches to a bolt with bushings and helps controll the roll of the eng, trany, and t-case. not sure if yours requires it but it sure sounds like it to me. years ago when i went to a poly mount i tried to run without the torque arm and i broke a mount every run until i reinstalled the arm.
rokcrln 06-30-2002, 07:30 AM The EB's have never required the torque arm but I was tryiing to figure out some type of secondary hold.
rokcrln 06-30-2002, 07:32 AM Rochog, Thanks f-ing with ya, I will be hitting the shops on monday to find on and give it a try. Thanks.
Nobody 06-30-2002, 08:22 AM What kind of condition are the motor mounts in? If they're sloppy, they may have caused the tranny mount to :nuke:
rokcrln 06-30-2002, 08:29 AM New ones and the moter is not twisting but the tranny is lifting up:confused:

I'm having the exact same problem with our Heep...thing of it is, I can't find a new mount, and none of the parts books show my mount exists. The mount is a wierd style, and the movement is limited by the metal "cage".
It makes the tranny seem real sloppy, and I believe causes the "lurching" we get when trying to idle through a parking lot in 1st gear.
rokcrln 06-30-2002, 08:44 AM Yeh the lurching is real bad. Mine is efi and lots of ponys and gearing. When it lurches it jumps and hops and you can do nothing about it (with a bad mount). What I am thinkg of trying is the polly mound and then do a tranny strap. What this is, is a old VW bug thing you would put on the trans axel to keep the noise cone from snaping off. I just need to find some rubber strap for linner and build the strap and sinch downs. What do you think? In an EB I do not see the problem with a solid typ system since they do not frame flex like other rigs do. Sorry it goes over the tranny and would tie down to the cross member.
SeaBass44 06-30-2002, 09:01 AM Also chain the Drivers side motor mt to limit twist and stop them from breaking and limit the twist if it does break.
AIRZUKI 06-30-2002, 09:08 AM you could always make a combination crossmember/skidplate that bolts solidly to the tranny/t-case and mounts to the frame with poly ( leaf spring eye ) bushings
rokcrln 06-30-2002, 09:23 AM Seebass44 thanks but as mentioned above it is not seaming to twist just lift at the tranny and only in forward gears:question:
Airzuki, This was my original Idea but the T case is real close to the frame so I opted for the other way but I may be re-building today. But the mount and skid are one.

EricZ 06-30-2002, 09:28 AM I kept ripping mine on my 4Runner, so i cut out the factory rubber and welded some tube in place and use spring bushings.
Very tight now!!!
Here are a couple pics.

don't know how much street diving you do but for the $ it might be worth a try.
my last couple orders from summit have been 24 to the door(if the part is in the nev. wharehouse
:D .
rokcrln 06-30-2002, 11:39 AM $25.95 @ 4wp on a sunday:eek: This is just what I was looking for it has a " safety interlock" so it can not split apart. And yes I do alot of street driving. Thanks all for your help I will let you know how it works!
Charly 06-30-2002, 11:48 AM I use that same poly GM type mount under my 4500, has held up fine behind the 350.
The only thing I don't like is the vertical height of it. I plan on making something like EricZ posted, but I was going to mount the spring bushings vertically...on either side of the 'u' mount.
ItsaCJ6 06-30-2002, 12:57 PM Just for info here, I have been blowing motor mounts and tranny mounts ( or I did ) the reason has been miss alignment of the engine and tranny mounts the trainagle that is formed by the mounts was not correct.. (reason bent frame)
I chained down the motor to the frame and the torque/drivers side of the tranfercase to the frame as well. this has stopped any more mount damange. it allows the movement but not too much, to blow out the mount. and I was using the red poly mount pictured above.
patooyee 06-30-2002, 01:13 PM I think that if your tranny is lifting up it is due to torque and having no other way to go. If that is the case, all you need is a torque arm. I didn't know this for a while and ran my cammed and bored 258 with just a polly mount and always wondered where the hell all the vibes were coming from under heavy accelleration. The torque arm fixed all my problems.
With my Chevy 350,, TH350, NP203, D300 swap, I did the solid bar mounted to the tranny mount and then attached to the frame on both sides using poly springs bushings. There's no way in hell it's going to move. Here's some pics:

rokcrln 06-30-2002, 02:45 PM Patooyee, I don't see the torque mount, it may have busted one of the welds and fallen off! But I think that cross member will do the job for you. I am just finishing up a dual mount for my tranny, It will use the trann/ polly mount and a bar set up that limits the amount of movement the tranny has. I will post when done, should only be a few more hours. Thank you everyone for all your help.

The torque mount was on the old T176 that used to be in there. Now it's a TH350 with 2 t-cases and the entire cross member is the torque bar. :D

rokcrln 06-30-2002, 04:28 PM Well here is the new and much improved model. I still have the th350 mount in place (polly). Then I added a cross tube through the adapted right above the mount and it is tied to the skid plate on both sides. This gives added support to the trany to keep it from moving. Tested it and it flexes anout 3/8" and that is it so lets hope it is the last one I need.
