Hey, I'm driving a "new" Alaskan postal CJ-8 from Anchorage, Alaska to Durham, NC. www.rockcrawler.com had a detailed description of what I'm planning on doing and they are going to be putting up my daily reports and photos along the way for all to see. There's also a link to a great page with information on this very rare type of Jeep.
Check it out and wish me luck! :D

Have you got some kind of reception in Durham planned? Some kind of media event with the NC clubs would be cool. Maybe a convoy from the VA/NC line on 85?

thanks guys... I saw the Jeep last night! It's in even better shape that I had hoped! I'm totally psyched now.
I'm posting a new report to www.rockcrawler.com today, check it out.
I don't have anything big planned for my arrival in NC, mainly because I don't know what day it will be exactly, but I really just didn't think about it at all.
I will definitely be meeting local Jeepers as soon as I can manage once I'm back. SOMEONE has to help me figure this thing out! (If 4400 miles of driving doesn't do that first).
You're a sick man.
I'll try to meet up with you at 4WP in Columbiana. :flipoff2:

Didn't they use the square cornered doors on the CJ-10 tugs with the half tops too?

Sure, we have a shitload of them up here. Some in good shape some in bad. I thought about getting one, but NAH I like the new grocery getter better.
You know Dean up here man? He is the Postal God for the Anchorage area. He has a galvanized frame for his CJ8 Very trick. And is putting a 500 hp 383 in it? WOW
Have fun on your drive. I have done it a few times, not for pussies that is for sure. Escpecially averaging the 550 miles a day you are gonna need to do. Take spare gas and parts LOL.

yes, there's another one that's for sale as well, he already sold his third one.
I don't know Dean, I've only talked to Dan here in AK about these Jeeps. I would really like to get his contact info if he'd be willing to talk to me some. I'd love to see a nice one in person to give me more motivation to get this thing back in one piece.
Yes, they do have the square doors from the -10 and overlander. Luckily, these ones seem to be in good shape.
More when I finally get the thing and start working.
