: Idle at 3000

so I was pulling out of a parking spot and my jeep died. I turned it back on and it has been idling at 3000 rpms ever since. any ideas. it has a 4.0L

ive had the same problem. never seem to have found out what happened. it worked its way out.:confused: i asked around and people said it might have been some bad gas. do you let it warm up before driving it? when you punch it does it stutter? hard to start? or long time to start? not realy sure but good luck! intrested..

Saw an 87 that had the trottle cable stuck... stayed at 2700...

you might pull your IAC, Idle air controller and make sure it is working. Mine stopped and stuck wide open so it would idle around 3K.

My 89 used to do that every so often. I'd just stomp the throttle pedal a few times, disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes and it would go away.

Ya im not sure what it was, I have a stage 2 Jet chip in it, I heard that they give problems sometimes so I took it out. Now it runs normal. Thanks for the replies... any one want to buy a stage II Jet chip??? haha
