I'm sure that we will be able to gather a few from FLA. to show up. Come up with a time. Should be a good showing. Robbie

My XJ's "street legal" but I dont drive it on the road... Whats the plan.. meet, parade, load back up and head on.... OR are you just convoying from Murphy to the trails?

meet up, leav'em on the trailer and parade tow rigs and all.
I'm hearing People really don't have a grip of just how big our community is. Because they see us come through one or two rigs at a time.

Great Idea guys!!!

I'll see what I can do to get the UFWDA involved in your parade. I will be there to support the effort.

Sounds cool, but there is no way Sav A Lot parking lot is going to hold many rigs and trailers.

Also posted this on the Moab Jeeper and on the UFWDA MySpace page.

Anything to get the word out there.

Really?? I mean, what else is there that really makes Murphy popular? I think that it would be safe to assess that the wheeling community makes up for 10-20% of Murphy's revenue, at least in the wheeling months. That is a hell of a lot of revenue to loose.

Is the town of Murphy creating the problem or just not supporting the efforts to keep Tellico open?

The town is sort of in a non binding way giving support. Their not the problem. I'd just like to get them more on board with support.

Sounds like a good idea.

Is SAV-A-LOT ok with it?

We picked Save-A-Lot because that is where Jeep Jamboree meets just before their rides. Chuck blocked the road with the Rescue Tellico truck to let out about 150 jeeps.
I don't think this will be big enough from the wonderful response we are seeing.
Danny from Crawfords Camp and I will talk about this, watch for flyers with all the info. At Crawfords Camp there will be many things going on for this.
We are working details, the date is set and we are really excited about it.

Shouldnt we fill the parking lot at the Forest Service office with a friendly protest?

I just want to know for sure that the town of Murphy is not in agreement with the closure. If it is I refuse to ever spend one cent there. I've heard they would rather have the fishing crowd there and I don't fish so....

Maybe you should plan on having that pre-parade meeting take some time, might encourage people to wander in to stores and spend money. Might also encourage everyone to fill up and stock up in Murphy. That's the whole point right? I'd hate for this to leave the impression that we are just a bunch of cheapskates who blocked the roads. What about Tellico Plains? I know Tellico OHV is in NC but this is impacting that area as well. I think most of the fishermen/women use that side more than Murphy also. Just something to think about.

In rural counties the small towns usually (not always) carry only a fraction of the influence that the county can provide. Maybe some letters to the Cherokee County Manager's office and Economic Development office could get the ball rolling. A Resolution supporting the OHV trail system from the Board of County Commissioners would be nice to have. I'll send an email.

Should any of the local authorities be notified? Are any permits required to have a "parade" thru the city? Just some things that should be looked into I think. Thanks.

Guy's,
Helen, Danny and I are alredy all over the permits and logistics stuff. Give us a few weeks to iron everything out and present the complete package.
I guarantee, it'll be legal and right. It's not worth giving TU free ammunition to shoot us with.

I'm going to bring up a few rigs myself. We'll be coming from about 6 hours away. My rig isn't street "friendly" but it is insured and licensed in SC. I think if streetable they should prob be driven, its going to be hard to parade through town with a CC Dually, 32ft trailer and 2 fullsize chevys. We're gonna grab as many Carolinak5.com members as possible also. I hope the town of Murphy is ok with it because this thing could be like Daytona Bike week if half of the people that love Tellico shows up. Better make your reservations now.

Also I make the shirts for our group. Would there be a problem if I sold shirts and donated the profits to the cause?
