These came to be while searching for a good way to outboard springs, I ran into one of my competitors making something with the same idea but only done halfway. We finished the job and made them the way they should be made, made to last and take the abuse rock crawling can dish out. You can see how they are angled front and rear to avoid hanging up on rocks and how they are reinforced to take the pounding too!

http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/4.5%20outriggers%20welded.jpghttp://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/outrogger%20from%20bottom.jpg

These weld on both the side and bottom of the frame for greater strength and the end caps completely box the structure for maximum impact resistance. These would work equally well as lower link mounting positions on either the inside or the outside of the frame and thats why we make them 4.5" long for the flat bottom surface. Also, being 1/4" thick helps a bit:D

Will these work for a full width conversion?

They work for that and we have found a few more uses for them too! Think about inboarding your lower links for additional angulation.....

Gravel Maker
05-20-2008, 10:45 PM
There is nothing else like them available anywhere and there is a reason, they are unique and very tough to "see" when flat. Sometimes you need to get away from the herd mentality to make something uniquely strong and be willing to take a little risk to produce them.......We are not afraid of trying something new and we don't only make things that looks simular to what the other guy makes and call it good. Simular can mean alot of things, like much smaller and like a rock anchor too!

Being used mostly as part of a fullwidth conversion with the 4.5" ones but the 7" are catching up to be used to Inboard your lower links!

Being used mostly as part of a fullwidth conversion with the 4.5" ones but the 7" are catching up to be used to Inboard your lower links!

The question was centered around why?

The answer is pretty simple, Because you can! If you go full width you can easily get 10-14 degrees from outside to frame rail. Add 2" additional mounting space to the inside of the frame rail and you can add 7-10 degrees more, that will help you......:smokin:

And since I can't find those pics on my computer we tacked some onto the 7200 we are building so you can see how they go on.....

You can see here how the shape wraps the frame and strengthens even a C-channel frame, and in the background you can also see how I dislike c-channel frames with the boxing we have done on the Ranger.....Anyway, these add 2" to the width of any frame in a much stronger way than what has been made by others......Keep these in mind when going full width!

We also use them to inboard the lower links on rear 4 links to add angulation without sacrificing articulation!

But sometimes it is the only way, like when you put full width axles under a narrow frame with leaf springs. There are other ways to outboard but none stronger.....

Too bad these do not have a wider mounting surface or they would be perfect for outboarding fullwidths on a CJ. Outside edge to outside edge of the frame is 28.75. Being that the center pin to center pin of the dana 60 is either 32 or 32.5 these would need to come out 3.5 inches past the outermost part of the frame. Do you have anything in the works for something a little wider?

These are being used for exactly the CJ you are speaking of and CJ's are the reason we initially designed them for. These add 2.5" to both sides of the frame so the 28.75" becomes 33.75", however if you want wider we make 3 other types.

Here is one that is very versatile, its the Small Mounting platform. This one has had the tail cut off and is upside down so it could be used as a body mount but they are 4.5" square additional mounting surface to the side/bottom of any frame.

I'm not doing a shackle reversal which this outrigger might work for since the shackle can hang past the outrigger. I just cut of the BTF one I had installed last year. The spring is 2.5 and the bushings add 1/2 inch. Center pin to center pin on the leaf is 32.5 + (center of leaf out to the bushing on both sides) 1.5 + 1.5 = 35.5" If its a chevy fullwidth minus .5". The BTF outriggers weren't wide enough and sucked the springs in torwards each other in the rear. Hope this info helps with future design.

I wish they were a bit wider but with Dan's suggestion I cut the longer ones in half and they worked great. The guy I put them on for wants me to gusset the little shelf that is left. I really don't think it needs it especially since the hangers them self are plated (gusseted). Here are a couple phone pics..

I gotta get some better pictures and I need to clean up the cuts around the bolts but you get the idea..

First off it is available for the '93-'97 trucks, the pre '90 are just awaiting someone to swap his engine so we can finish the front (I got him a new engine so we could). For the newer trucks I still need a straight frame, I have had a couple of leads but they were bad, I can't really get one from a yard because it has to be straight so still looking...

These and the other 3 pieces we use to get the room you need are always big sellers, and big for a reason. Not because they are a sexy cool part, they really are not. It is because they work AND can make the frame stronger in that area...The fact that they look good while doing it is just a bonus!

They work like nothing else, no other company has put any thought into these...Wasn't too difficult, my son came up with the design when he was 14...Someone just had to think about it...

These were developed to give you a solid footing for your spring or link mounts, they do it well and even make frames stronger ;)

I was looking on your website and didn't see it there so I figured I'd ask you here and give you free bump.:smokin:

When mounted on the frame, how tall are they? It's for a 74 CJ-5 frame which is 2" x 4".

They're actually in several sections because they can be used for so many things.

They only add the thickness of the bracket (.25"), what they add is 2.5" to the frame width. On the side of the frame they are almost 3", they mount on both the side and the bottom.

Ok, so in the picture a couple posts above that's probably a 4" frame given the gap at the top of your bracket. Perfect, answers my questions, thanks.
