check a map. From the Tahoe side of the Rubicon it is not far, maybe 40 mins or a little more on pavement. You go N on the 89 frome Homewood to Tahoe City then head out to Tuckee. The trailhead for Fordyce is just a few minutes down the 80 from Truckee. The trailhead is very close to paved roads and easy to find. Fordyce closed to my knowledge until spring.

If you are going to run Fordyce with 10 rigs in 1 day I hope they are all well built. If you keep a good pace with a couple of rigs you can make it in about 6 hours. But that is not the whole trail it is only to the committee crossing and out to Fordyce lake.

I like going to the Rubicon mostly because of its natural beauty and to run little sluice. When I go to Fordyce I get to see the same beauty and it is more consistently challenging. I would strongly recommend running Fordyce if you are in the area.

If your going from the West end of the Rubicon, figure 3-4 hours...

It's about 2 hours to Auburn & then 1-2 hours up to the trailhead.

All this varies with stops for fuel, food, trailering or driving, etc.

(Note: I always try to over-estimate so that if it takes less, people are happy :))

Fixed it, I meant West end... (I was thinking "not East")

As far as the trail being open during the winter as mentioned above, ...well it has been in the past.

The Route Designation Process may change all that Forest wide or for select areas, large and small. Of the ~ seven alternatives in the Tahoe's DEIS at least some will show Winter Closures.

Truth :(

Forget to add that to my post above. Wishful thinking maybe

With all the snow I wonder what the creek crossings will be like in June. May want to have an alternative trail in mind.

Yes June always has the potential to be a high flow month :flipoff2:

May typically see's the highest flow rates, and depending on the snow pack it can still be high in June. Best to check dreamflows for the latest info before attempting.

Yep, maybe more. It's a good 30-35 minutes from 89 to top of WH5, and that's moving like a rally driver on the approach road to Meadow. Fun with AWD :)
