I have the opportunity to buy a lathe from where my father works, but I'm not sure how much it is worth. All I have for information is that it's a South Bend CAT# CL8187RB 10x48. It was never used much, pretty much only for making center punches and other little tooling. It comes with a 3 and 4 jaw chucks, a few different steady rests, and 2 other boxes of odds and ends. It's 3 phase at the moment so I would also have to get a new motor to go to single phase. Any one know how much something like this would be worth.

I'm afraid the catalog number doesn't mean much to me...any idea how old it is?

I have all Atlas stuff, but I'd guess something that size in working order with a quick change gearbox and a lot of extras would be worth at least $1000-$1500.

ye you want a quick change gear box. I would leave the motor and mybe get a frequency drive and have the vaiable speed or get a phase converter for the motor . I believe they made two 10in lathes one was a heavy duty and is a great choice I had a 9" and it was a great unit for the house. Ed
Looks like you're in WI so you're much closer to a shitload of used machine tooling. I cant' speak to that specific Southbend, but hop on Ebay and Craigslist and get a feel for asking prices. Here in CO that lathe would go for at least twice whatever you'd pay out there.

Anything under $1500 would be a deal considering it's coming with about $600 worth of accessories.
