I saw a 74 Bronco for sale on the side of the road today and might be interested in picking it up as a daily driver. Any info/issue's/concern's would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what the windshield says... "74 Bronco, 302 V-8, Auto, PS, Runs excellent." It also has a plow setup on it (don't need that though), and has a half cab type of hardtop. It some rot/rust on the bottoms of the fenders/quarter panels but nothing extreme. Still very salvageable.

My question's are, are there any concern's with this year Bronco? What tranny does this have in it? C6? Are these a dependable vehicle? I drive only 30 miles a day, but don't want to constantly be tinkering with this. I know the last statement all depends on the actual vehicle condition, but I think you guys know what I mean as far as little things going.

Thanks and sorry for being so ignorant on Ford's. I am a Jeeper by vehicle, but I have always loved the old Bronco's. I just don't know much about them. :)

How much they asking? It's got a C4 auto stock. There a good transmission. The stock PS setup is good, very expensive to retrofit. It would make a good daily driver if it's in ok shape but the mileage won't be good. An old used car salesman told me once that if you test drive a car go about 5 stop and go miles to the nearest freeway. Drive down the freeway about 10 miles at highway speed an drive back. If it doesn't smoke, leak, overheat and runs as goos as when you left it's probably ok.

They are asking $3595 but I could probably pick it up for around $3000.

i'd buy it.. if you can weld.. rust is nothing. at your BEST expect 15 mpg.. emphasize.. AT YOUR BEST. if you installed efi that's a different story. Half Cabs are cool.. you can probably sell the plow set up.. i reccomend you check out http://www.classicbroncos.com they know pretty much everything you need to know about it. it sounds like a nice truck.. auto which most people prefer... dana 44 up front, the power steering which is expensive.. and it doesn't cost too much. also check out the headers.. and the bump stops.. one dead give away of whether or not the truck was driven hard off road or jumped even (look for where the axle may have made contact with the headers..i've seen this on alot of broncos.. also the bump stops will probably be dead but could be expected from a old ass truck) only issue with it may be the drum brakes up front.. kind of scary to drive.. but it's not TOO expensive if you do it from junkyard parts (300 if you play your cards right) and it's not difficult to do. well good luck :smokin:

Go for the buy , you won't be disappointed . Just be ready to deal w/ a 28 year old vehicle and its problems . Check out the floorpans and doorposts for rust , and as mentioned in a previous reply about the brakes . As drums suck on a daily driver and putting on decent discs isn't to pricey . Good luck if you buy and have fun . :flipoff2:
