Well, my week off ended Friday when I had to go into work but I managed to get a little bit more done this weekend. I made a template and marked up my box tubing so I would only cut the bottom part that gets welded to the truss and axle for less welding. It took some figuring but in the end it turned out close enough with only minor trimming necessary and some stiff arm bending. Wish I had a picture of the cut out piece but in my excitement I didn't remember to take one.

I installed the axle under the Scout and supported the axle at the center diff only so the weight of the Scout would push the axle tubes down if in any direction at all. Figuring that the welding tends to pull the material towards the weld I wanted to make sure I had something pushing back.

Outside welds were easy but the inners were a little tougher to get all the way around half way decent like. In the future I would make the thing about an inch or so wider overall to better get inside for the weld.

I pulled the axle out again and tacked the brace piece in place. I ended up having to cut the center part (thin bit over the top) out so I could get a nice tight fit against the axles and truss weld it back in. I installed the axles again the same way and began my welding. 20% duty cycle sucks so it took me a while to get through it all, plus I did shorter sections to allow it all to cool and hopefully not warp anything.

Overall I am happy with it. I ended up a bit short at the perches but a little bit of 1/2 a boxed section should finish it off. I also tried out my new nutcert installer and added a 1/4" nutcert thinger to the brace for the rear brake line distribution block, bolt will be a little smaller than stock but no stress so it should work OK ... I think. I need to find my NPT tap and add a new breather hole and fitting and place it between the perch and the end of the axle.

I cut my old cut off spring perches in half and am going to use them for the lower shouck mount - weld them to the back of the axle and weld a bolt to them and voila, easy peasy. You can see the start of this creation on the right saw horse in front of the axle.

That's one heavy duty truss:smokin:

I got sick before the weekend came around. Friday a storm hit and tree landed on my pickup, not much damage to mine, but my dad's got wacked good. Some fence blew down and the dog got out. Feeling like chit as I worked on it an hour here and there, just finshed today, dog was tied up for like 3 days, I'm sure she happy. Not much on the Scout other then cutting the bearing off the 14 bolt carrier.

Jp, that nutsert will be plenty strong. Used them all over, and never had the 1/4" one fail yet. They're damn useful:smokin:

I hacked another 2.5" out of my drivers seat base, so that makes 5.5" hacked out total. My legs don't hit the steering wheel now, and my head's not close to the damn roof anymore :D Apparently newer power seats are a little bit taller than the stockers:laughing:

Other than that, played video games and thought about what I should be doing on the scout. Oh, and saw Alvin and the Chipmunks with the GF. Pretty funny IMO. You pirates are probably too macho to see it:flipoff2::p

Got some more done on the 10 bolt for the front of the Travelette, all that is needed now are brake caliper brackets and to bend up some new lines.

Had a get-together for a buddy's b-day on fri evening.

Sat, pulled the chunk and locker out of the front of the Scout to go in the d44 for the XJ. It's sad that the only work done to the Scout in months is scavenging parts for another project. :( Sat evening, pulled the disc brakes off a 35 rear that will be going on my XJ d44 project.

Sun, took the little man (now 5 wks old) hiking. Lil guy slept through the whole hike. :D

It does, doesnt it. You didnt miss much. Just some deep snow and an absolute clusterfuck on Hillockburn. I'm so glad were are unloading in Colton and wheeling over Goat, rather than drive up Hillockburn.

Took the NonPirateScouters rig up to pre run for my annual 'Huge Bitch Run'. It was fun and we had a good time.

Built some shelves out of 4"x4"x8' posts, 2"x4"s, and 3/4" plywood to store Scout parts and hold the new (old) oven I'm going to use for powder coating. At least now I can see the floor :p. The Humvee wheels (top part) barely fit in the oven, but it will work.

Ordered ARBs from OffRoadOverStock.com. They seem to have the lowest price around. And he's PBB member.

Here's the Honda with the boards in it. Yeah it was pretty funny leaving Lowe's. There was a non-WASP person looking at me wondering whose car that white boy was stealin'.

It's been kind of a fucked up year for me so far. Came down bronchitis right before new years and fought that all last week. Saturday I felt pretty good and then Sunday I felt great!!!..... until about about 8:30pm when my stomach started hurting. Got worse and worse through the night and I finally couldn't take it anymore and had the GF drive me to the ER at about 1:30am. A shitload of morphine and a CAT scan later, they were wisking me into the operating room for emergency surgery. Seems my appendix didn't want to play nice anymore. I just home from the hospital a couple hours ago. The upside to all this is I haven't been to work yet this year! :flipoff2:

This will probably by my last wheeling trip until Memorial Day weekend, as we're expecting child #2 in two weeks. :D

Poor little car. All the money it saves ya and it gets treated like that.:shaking:

After I seen it with 2 37" tires inside I guess there aint much it won't haul.

I thought ya had ARB's for the trail truck already, or are these for the DD?

I still had family (leftovers from Christmas) here this weekend so I got nothing done as usual!!
