: Finished all my current "Wilbur" projects
wngrog 06-30-2002, 07:02 PM PANZER came by this morning to get some new motor mounts to start off my day.
Chris and I talked motor mounts while anothe Lone Start Club member, Klye LePage played with my Remote Control Land Cruiser!
After they left I did a disc brake conversion on the Pig.
I used the disc brakes and knuckles from the TIKI. It was a complete bolt on, very easy and VERY greasy.
I had already gotten as far as grinding the housing for the big Birfields on the drivers side when i started at 9:30...took about an hour to get there, so seeing that I finished at 2:20, the job took 6 hours from start to finish including bleeding the brakes and a test drive.
I LOVE the front disc brakes. It was kind of sad taking off the brand new front drums, but the used discs still kick their butt.
I also replaced my radiator, installed a torque reduction starter, added some Hella H4 headlights and installed a Lock Right in the rear (thanks REDDOG). All that took another 4 hours to complete.
Whew, now all I need is some Power Steering and a 4 speed and I will be ready to rock and roll.....
I think Wilbur will have to go to Moab next year :)
The Aisins look good, huh?
Jason M 06-30-2002, 07:41 PM Moab??? Did I hear you right???
Upper proving grounds in Wilbur II???
LOL
Restification. It is a good word...
Perhaps I will bring the 72 40 to Moab instead of my normal ride.
:p
RHINO 06-30-2002, 07:58 PM right-on nolan, wilburs on his way.

Hey Discokid.... . Welcome Newbie. :flipoff2:
Kyle, better listen to your elder... hell, Grog must be at least TWO weeks older or so.
Do you remember the post when Grog stated "I'm leaving it stock, it is too pretty to modify... " Uh huh. :p

I have asked it before, I will ask it again.
What part of a rear locker, front disc brakes, a torque reduction starter and taking OFF the ugly gold shackles and putting on the stock ones effects the overall stock LOOK of my Pig?
What the Hell?
I think you should have to drive you Cruiser with Drum brakes and a 3 speed.
I don't think that is too fun :flipoff2:
Kyle LePage 07-01-2002, 12:09 PM We'll see how Wilbur stands the test of time. My guess is that it will remain "close to stock" with only enough mods to keep from bashing it on the easy stuff. Now, how Nolen defines easy stuff will be the tell tail sign.
cruiserbrett 07-01-2002, 12:53 PM I second Nolen on the tranny and disc swap. I have a pig that is a bit in need of some bodywork and paint but I will never cut it up into a wheeler-I will leave it stock including the F engine, interior, etc. But for safedriving and retaining sanity the discs and 4spd are a must even for the most stock cruiser. I _HATE_ driving with the three speed and with the damn drums I had to write down in a calendar when I wanted to stop-the drum brakes do not do a good job on a heavy FJ55 when there are tons of little tiny BMW's and other cars darting infornt of me with 13 inch brakes that haul the 2800lb cars to a stop in 100ft shorter than the drums on my FJ55. Discs make it tons safer... PERIOD. What is the point of a totally stock unsafe L/C that will get wrecked b/c the owner did not want to improve the braking???

Thank you.
This Totally Stock crap is for the Land Cruiser Mailing List guys. and notice I did change my signature :D
gunracer1 07-01-2002, 01:47 PM i am calling bull shit, i know you will do a lot more mods than that. some of them have just not poped into your head yet. my feeling are you bought it, do what ever the hell you want with it. if someone doesnt like it, tell them to kiss your ass. hell they can buy a stock one and let it rot in their garage. later mike

yeah, you want people to see it!!
no point storing it...for what? nobody could appreciate it
but its gunna suck to fully get it in that, sills, guttering, rear overhang, ramp over :D itll turn some heads out on the trail though
the hubs and discs is cool, and i like the little baby super swampers :D
power steering and disc brakes arent major mods or anything, they are NECESSARY to make it drivable, my dad has a bone stock cruiser, and i hate to drive it, factory non power steering, does not drive well at all, good thing it came with front disc brakes, but the bench seats, i could complain all day, if it wasnt for the fact that its always driving when i brake my junk, and has a roof, for those cold and rainy days, then i wouldn't even drive it!
cruiserbrett 07-01-2002, 08:22 PM The Hella H4's are the sh*t. Especially if you make a relay setup to power them directly form the battery!!! Bright SOB's... I actually feel safe at 70mph at night in the FJ55 with the Hella's and the disc brakes. Now to do something about the damn lap belts...
