Ok, so I found out that a bearing went out in my transmission a week after I picked it up from getting rebuild.. Plus, when slowing down, then speeding back up, it would feel like it would pop into nutral, then back into drive, thus spinning the tires like mad. when I took in the truck to get a new transmission, the tranfer case was working perfect, and the oil was clean. Now it grinds like mad, and there are metal shavings like mad in the transfer case. This is maybe 200-700 miles. I also noticed that the shifter was bottoming out, and didnt have proper free play in it.

SO here are my 2 questions
1) do you think the tranny would have caused the problems to the transfer case?
and
2) what should I do about it (I ordered a rebuilt transfer case today, and my tranny guy is putting it in for free).

Thanks for the help and advise. Garrett

looked into that.. but I wanted a 1500 reg cab short bed with a 5.3 5 speed. Well. that truck isnt made, so I just fixed mine. At least I have a solid axle.

Did I miss something. Did you say what kind of transfer case it was? At any rate, if the trans bearings go out (depending on what ones), and it allows the main shaft to wiggle, then yes it can damage the transfer. The output gear on the trans (input gear for the transfer) rides on the main shaft. To little info to really answer.
