: Loud Click/Bang = Bad Starter?

My wifes 96 Disco is having a fit again!

She was listening to the stereo while detailing the inside and killed the battery. I go to jump it and the starter makes a LOUD click/bang noise that freaked me out:eek:
(Sounds like it is trying to/wants to turn over but is being denied)

Now I have read how much of a pita it is to change the starter, just wanted to confirm dead Rover starters can make such noise:confused:

Replacing Rover starter = lots of fun.

I can't diagnose a bad starter over the internet, but I can offer you my sympathy.

PT has some good tips about swapping out the bolts when you go to replace. Hold on tight, keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times and have fun!

Check the battery first!!! If you killed it, chances are it's the battery and not the starter.

105k Miles on the truck.

I am gonna take the battery to get checked tomorrow, I dont' think its holding a charge.

As a precaution I pulled the plugs, everything looked fine and I can turn it over with a breaker bar:confused:

As luck would have it. We got a foot of new snow last night and I do not have a garage!

I cleaned up the terminals and swapped out the old battery for the one in my rig and...

It sounds like it wants to turn over but there is a weak battery:confused:

I kept messing with the ignition and got it to crank over, but it went over s l o w l y!

I got a new starter coming in.
