: stock 40 spring question: front or rear?

I have a set of Rancho replacement stock springs, lightly used -- hell, compared to my saggy, 26-year-old stock ones, they're brand spanking new! It'll be like putting on a lift. :D

Two of the spring packs have about 1.5" taller arch than the other two. The problem is, I've got no idea which end is which! The numbers are worn off, so I can't look them up in a catalog...

Can anyone tell me which are the fronts and which are the rears? I'm thinking that the taller ones should go in front, since they'll be carrying more weight than the rear.

rears are the taller ones...good luck.

If they only have 3 leafs in the pack...stick with the saggy springs.

Those are the old, old Rancho lift springs and they will KILL you off/on road.

Post pictures when you get your Cruiser lifted.

Thanks Nolen! It's not going to be so much a lift as a "return to normal height". ;) But I'll do before-and-after pictures and measurements in any case to see what really happens.

The springs have six leaves per pack. One set has tapered ends and the other has squared ends, and I can't remember which is which now. It's early, and I haven't had coffee yet... I do know that I've opened up the clamps and have slip-plated the leaves, so they should ride a heap better than what I've got now! Just gotta find some replacement rubber shackle bushings and I'm good to go.

The eyes are *not* military-wrapped. So would I have any problems, other than driveshaft length, if I installed the rear springs flipped around? I have a spare front driveshaft to swap in that looks like it would take care of the length issue...

Time for a search I guess. :p
