: Shocking accident claims a life. So sorry, Matt...
Glenn 06-30-2002, 10:59 PM Matt Adams ('mtadams' on the bb) is the young man that bought my blue 43 Willys and he's been wheeling the heck out of it. He moved out to CA from Pennsylvania for a job opportunity at Intel. His mom recently came to visit. She rode all the way out here on the back of her boyfriends motorcycle. Apparently they have done this type of trip before. They have been together for about 5 years now. Matt even took her wheeling in Willy just the other day. Just down to Jergens. Didn't wanna scare her too bad...
They headed back home and were cruizing through Yellowstone National Park on the bike when some dipstick pulled out from one of the turnouts and made a u-turn right in front of them. The bike slammed into the side of the vehicle, killing the boyfriend instantly. He had the presense of mind to push Matt's mom off the bike somehow just before they hit. She ended up underneath the vehicle with some injuries but survived. Happened on Saturday. Matt was up on the Rubicon and didn't find out till today when he got back... He called his dad back east and also was informed that his Grandpa had just suffered a stroke and wasn't doing very good...
I tell ya, that's a lot for a young man to deal with. Specially when he's so far from his homeland. Say a few kind words for him in your prayers. And for his mom. She may have survived the accident but she's gonna be hurting for quite a while... :( We're really sorry to hear all this bad news, Matt... Hang in there buddy...
Chopperman 06-30-2002, 11:28 PM Sorry to hear that. People need to learn how NOT to pull out in front of bikes. It's every bikers worst fear ( A car pulling out in front of you ) Has happened to me twice , I got through both by the skin on my teeth.
Jenn and myself will say a few prayers...

I can't find the words to really express how I feel about this. That is an amazing man.
I'm sorry for your families loss and wish your mother a speedy recovery.:(
CoryL 07-01-2002, 06:20 AM My prayers and condolences go out to Matt and his loved ones.
rodzzilla 07-01-2002, 07:34 AM So sorry to hear about this. My thoughts go out to him and his family in this difficult time. To many times bikers have to deal with the irresposible actions of other motorist. Last Saturday a Van hit a group of 6 riders head on not far from where I live. Killed the 3 riding near the centerline instantly. 2 of the other 3 are in serious cond. The sixth one was only sustained minor injuries.
mccombs07 07-01-2002, 07:56 AM Matt, I am very sorry. Theres is not much else to say but we'll be prayin for ya in dallas, tx. Good luck to ya mate.

Rocksie 07-01-2002, 08:14 AM Life is fleeting and precious. A prayer is all I can offer…my thoughts are all I can give…so hold your loved ones tight tonight and thank the lord for such treasures.
All of our prayers please be heard, for those fighting fires, saving others lives, and those who in just an instant could be fight to save their own. Life is a gift. I would also want to include in my prayer that all of those who are able take full advantage of their moments here on this beautiful planet we all call home. I for one am very fortunate to have the loved ones I have and to know that there are friends like you that care so much.
My thanks today would be for the day itself….
I prey all those how have lost their way shall find it. I prey that all those who need love are loved and love well. I prey that all who seek shelter find comfort under a dry roof. Most of all I prey for all who need a ray of hope will let the light of understanding and encouragement into their lives.

SeanP 07-01-2002, 08:52 AM Glenn, is there anything us locals can do to help? Some meals, anything? I would imagine that Matt is with his mom somewhere in a hospital near the accident scene.
My prayers go out. That is really sad.

Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers and kind words.
I don't know that there is anything we can do here. I only talked to Matt for a few short minutes. Sounded like his mom is doing ok physically. She got some stitches and bruises and stuff. I don't know if she's still in hospital or not. Her boss back home is flying out to meet her and take care of things so that's under control. I don't know what his plans are at this point. I'll try to call him today and see if there's anything we can do to help. Thanks again...
And to Rocksie... All I can say is WOW!!! Very nicely said. :)
Thank you all...

mtadams 07-01-2002, 02:23 PM Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. I just spoke with the hospital near Yellowstone again and my mom has been discharged. Thank God she made it through the accident with only a few stitches and no broken bones. She will be staying in a hotel in Montana until her plane leaves on Wednesday. I will be traveling home in the near future to be with her to help her through this difficult time.
It was nice to see some of you out on the trail this weekend. I had been looking forward to my first run of the season for quite a long time. Just the bad news on the way back into town put a downward spiral on what started as a great weekend.
Thanks again for all of your support.
-Matt

moveaside 07-01-2002, 04:12 PM My mom went through a windshield of a van down a 30' creekbed through barbwire and broke her neck. I and my sis let her know how much we loved her and needed her and thats what kept her alive. She's fine now, you'd be shocked a mother that knows her kids need her can come back from anything. Make sure she feels needed and I hope the best for your family. Take heart I'm sure she'll be fine and well and with you in your Jeep soon.
HighToy 07-01-2002, 04:18 PM Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad to hear your mom is ok though. It's good that you're taking time off for her.
Good to hear about the job too. I see you're in FM5, I am over in FM4.

Prayers go out to you matt, and your family.
Magoo 07-02-2002, 12:12 PM This weekend was my ex-wife's weekend with the kids, I have custody. Sunday morning my son found his mom dead in bed. EDIT: She was only 26, an autopsie is being performed as I am typing this.
Love on your mom Matt, I know you do. My kids don't have a mom anymore, even if she wasn't the greatest, she was a mom.
My prayers are with you and your family, as well as your mom's boyfriends family, he is truely a hero. Keep my kids in your prayers please, they are still young(9,6, and 4) and have a lot to deal with.
