I just got a Holley kit to install from Downey along with a bigger tank for under the tub. Engine is a f motor, and this is a 69 fj40.

Problem with the carb is, i have a power brake conversion from Wardens in Placerville. the throttle linkage runs right under the Brake master cylinder and hits a little nub sticking off the bottom. which is a plug, so i can not just grind it off. and I can not get the air cleaner on.

So what I am doing is removing the 3 3/4" adapter off the back of the booster and attaching it directly to the fire wall.

now I was thinking of moving the stock clutch master over 1" and making a thick bracket off the pedal assembly to hook to the push rod for the clutch master

What have some of you guys done to get a master on the fire wall, and a clutch master next to it? have you tried a mini truck master cylinder? would it push enough fluid for a fj40 master cylinder? or should i look into a different master cylinder for the clutch?.

This is a friends cruiser. Not much of a budget to do this. i have to wait for the plasma cutter from my buddy so i can clear out some stuff on the fire wall, and cut out a little of the pedal assembly bracket so i can poke the master in and put the nuts on.

If the master booster assembly is too long, i may install a samurai booster, and use an adapter to the fj master that is on the rig now.

Or maybe a sammi booster with the mazda 929 master like 4runner rick had suggested for his sami buildup that will also run 4 wheel disks in the future. it has mini fronts now.

So really I want to know what you have done without money master cylinders or hydraboost. though hydraboost would work good with the chevy power steering setup in this. But would be to long I think.

alright i figured out what I had to do. the wardens adapter for the power assist brakes had to come off. now the master is bolted to the firewall after lots of trimming, and drilling.

the clutch master had to be moved over, so i made a new set of holes 3" toward the drivers side. and filled in the old clutch master hole. I had to make a crazy stupid clutch pedal assembly to work with this. but it works great.

after doing all this, I had plenty of room for downey off roads 2 barrel holley kit on the stock f motor. I removed the factory air box, and torqued the headbolts back down

then got in there and put a chevy alternator in the place of the stock l/c one.

now the gas tank from downey is in. the old one was leaking inside the tub and had to be removed. the new one I believe is 26 gallons. but I had both shocks running off the round crossmember to the rear of the rear axle. so i have to make a new crossmember forward of the rear axle. and welded on some ruff stuff shock mounts.

with that done. the gas tank was installed. I cut an access hole on the inside of the tub to get to the sending unit and adjust it when gas starts getting put in. but haven't gotten that far yet.

My shop got broke into on sunday morning and kinda put a wrench in my spokes for the day till they could get the report, and get somebody to take prints. but they got my 42" lcd from my office, and my ps3 with ALL of my games, my kids games and our movies. And my digital camera that had all my progress on this project.

It was all here cause I had no place to put it since i moved back from stockton. I was supposed to be here, but took off to get drunk oops.

well anyways. all i have left to do, is make the adjuster arm for the alternator and wire it up. wire up the fuel tank and run the fuel lines. cut the hole in the passenger rear quarter for the filler nozzle. remount the dimmer switch, i had to move it upwards to put slack in the harness to go around the booster.
and i may have to buy a throttle pedal and cable setup since the booster is now blocking the stock location.

the stock e-brake got ditched. it will be replaced with a line lock temporarily. then a disk brake kit will be installed on the rear, and used with a middle lever like a jeep or a samurai has.

no insurance. i can't even afford rent right now. So i am s.o.l. on that. hopefully work will flow in in the next few weeks. even if i can't afford new shit, if i have cash to do things i will be happy.

I am finishing the mounting of the gm alternator now. I have one based off a 88 suburban. which wire is for gauge, which wire is excite, and how to I get rid of all the external regulator shit? or do i just bypass that compltly and run a aftermarkt autometer to match the new autometer fuel gauge?
