ok so i have a cheap ass harborfreight welder, im poor i need a welder so thats wat i could afford, i was wondering if i was to drill and tap the cover that covers the tip, put a fitting on it, and run argon through it, would it work? does anyone think it would be possible to run a none fluxcore wire this way? only because my dad gave me a bottle, regulator and some line, just an idea, thought id ask some people with more experience before i just go for it thanks.

you would need a soloniod valve wired so when you pull the trigger it will turn on the gas. i dont see why it wont work. the valve should only be around 50 bucks from mcmastercarr or graingers.

You could make it work....... but I think that you would be better off money/time wise selling the HF and buying something already set up. You will also have parts that are replacable if something does go bad. If you do it, post up some pics.

Seriously. Get rid of that HF welder and get yourself a Lincoln, Miller or Hobart. You can dump all the money you want into that Chinese welder and it's not going to perform worth a damn. I know... I used to have one.
