: Getting into desert racing from Louisiana
hatcherpass badass 01-11-2008, 11:03 AM I moved from Alaska to Louisiana for work and am trying to convert from winter activities to southern (the lower 48) activities. I am very interested in desert trucks, I stopped off in Wynoka Oklahoma on my drive to the south and spent the week in the little sahara dunes. My DD which was a 92 3.0 is now dead because of it, but it was worth the fun. Now I have a truck to build off of. If any one knows of some good places in the south to get parts or just for good connections let me know.
whats wrong with buying parts from the known, proven suppliers that have been selling desert racing parts for decades ? weather they ship to Louisiana or nor-cal makes little diffrence to the UPS guy. kar-tek, mckensies, polly-performance, currie, BFG, and all the others have been selling and shipping parts worldwide since the beginning.
then again, Uncle Cooters used swapbuggy parts down there in Lousiana might just have the next great desert go fast idea :flipoff2:
how long you been there??? you been to prejans yet??
WTweeder 01-11-2008, 12:25 PM ya think the man might be looking for a store he can walk into, peruse the merchandise, swap lies with the counter guy, seek technical advise or physical help with his build?
i'm just sayin' :smokin:

i'm just sayin' :smokin:
and i'm just saying... get your desert tech advise from the guys who ....uhhh wait for it ......... race in the desert :shaking:
hatcherpass badass 01-11-2008, 03:32 PM nothings wrong with the known suppliers but it is nice to talk with someone face to face other than the local auto zone guy. I will most likely order most everything I need. Thanks, Yeah I have been to Prejeans its pretty damn good food.
Chase2 01-14-2008, 05:24 PM I am a refugee from the oil patch and spent 8 years with Schlumberger' MWD group Anadrill. I lived and worked in Lafayette for a couple of years. Prejeans has damn fine bread pudding with Jack Daniels sauce. Mulate's was always hopping with chanky chank and good food too. My favorite place was a little converted barn outside of Breaux Bridge on the interstate called Crawfish Town USA. Beast boiled crawfish in the world. Lafayette used to have Festival du Acadians with lots of music and food (you got to try the boudin).
Now for desert stuff in the Lafayette area, I hate to say it but good luck man, you gonna need it.
shelljeep 01-19-2008, 07:37 PM I buy 95% of my stuff mail order. Bryan at Cajun Offroad is a cool guy and very knowledgable about a really wide range of of things, but leans toward the more mainstream stuff since that's business. I use him when I can but alot of what I need, he doesn't carry...
Build a multipurpose rig. That's where the sport's headed, something that can haul ass, take a hit, and still crawl decently. Think rockracing.
You'll get more use out of it that way around here(Meaning within a 5-8 hour drive).
You here to be a deepsea diver?
hatcherpass badass 01-21-2008, 11:38 AM Thanks for all the advice. Yeah I moved here a little over three years ago to be a deep sea diver with cal dive. Still not sure how long Ill be here would like to make it back west sometime but depends on how the work is for divers.
shelljeep 01-21-2008, 12:41 PM Been doing that for 12 years now. PM sent.

Man he's right! Almost nobody east of Colorado has a clue about desert racing. I couldn't tell you how many times I have been asked about the Hydraulics on my truck. :shaking: No, that's a shock.... I never seen one that big! (Of course I hear that one a lot. :D)
