specs. 2001 tj with 4.5 RE sye and tom woods d/s

Pinion angle looks good.

A couple months ago I was driving on the freeway and i guess the bolts on the axle yoke were slowly back out and finally snapped came out and snapped off in the yoke and hit a one goodtime on the floor boards of my jeep.

I went home extracted the broken bolts put on a new u joint cause the caps flew off. There was no vibes for a while.

Now i have vibs hard from 2500-3500 rpms and little ones on the freeway . but still enough to drive me crazy.

I have replaced the that same rear u joint twice since the vibes came on because when i got underthere to shake whats loose there is movement on the u joint part with the straps on it.

I dont know if the yoke is bent just enough for the there to be movement (even though i think it would break first) or if the shaft is bent. or out of balance.

I called south bay driveline and they want 95.00 dollars to balance it and i dont even know if its actually bent

Does anyone have any tips to checking these things past eyeing them? cause everything looks ok

Get a dial indicator on your out put shaft and inspect for any runnout. That will rule out your output shaft if its good. I would say no more then .001 runout.

Install new u-joints. Your rear d-shaft could have got knocked out a bit

Get it checked

Vibs can cause more bad ju-ju to happen

I decided that i was going to replace aal of the u-joints in the shaft and try that out before i take it to the southbay driveline to have them balance because im pretty sure they will say that i need new you joints.

I found out that it is a pain in the ass to get the joints out of the cv part of the shaft

and when when i got ball yoke thing out of there. i noticed some of the needle bearings were broken or missing. so now i have to replace that and im not even sure where to get that. it says CV-82 on it but cant find it on for sale on the internet that matches the yoke

the same yoke on the front drive shaft looks similar. does anyone know if it will work?

Has anybody ever had to replace this?

Thanks,
Ross
