For those who own the ancient cable-operated Warn winches, I'm in the process of creating an information page on those, to cover most of the questions and whatever that come up with them.
The information is linked off ih8mud.com, but the direct is http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/oldwarn.html
If you have additional information regarding these, post it up and we can work on making this a complete resource for everyone! (Cruiser and otherwise!)

Thanks for the information. I am in the process of hooking up my 5687 right now. Does anyone know a cheap way to replace the brake and clutch cables? Mine are a bitch to pull. I tried spraying WD-40 down the cable housing, but with the bends it has to make at the back of the winch, it is really hard to pull and puch the clutch cable. I use a solenoid to power the winch so I just need the T handle brake and the circular handle clutch cables.

Try lubing the cables with "Dry Slide", available at motorcycle shops. WD stands for Won't Do.

I'm going to try the 'run without them' method.
Bungee down the brake lever, put winch in gear, and just use a switch to turn motor on (pulling) and off (not pulling)
(I don't have the cables, and am too cheap to buy them)
