We just put a TCI reverse manual valve body in the 4L60 in my father's Cruiser and he likes it except for one thing... it doesn't hold you back at all in first gear. Does anyone know how to modify the valve body to provide compression braking???

Any help is appreciated as this makes descents after water crossings particularly fun.

I had that same problem, but I have a 700R4, the valve body was a rev pattern manual also from TCI, could be the same valve body or very similar. I didn't build the trans or work on it ( didnt have time to learn auto's at the time), but I had a reputable trans shop that build trans for off-road racing build it. He had never built a 700r4 with that valve body before so he didnt know what to expect. It initially had no compression braking and shifted way too hard, it had too much pressure and actually broke two pumps. I took it back to him when I had a chance and he figured out how to make it work correctly. I works bitch'n now and I am very happy with it, it shifts very nicely and has plenty of compression braking. You can call them, the place it TransPros in san bernadino, CA, 800-71-TRANS, talk to Dave.

Give grady a call at Grady's extreme off road. He runs that set up in all of his rigs. They all work killer.

Sounds like you bought a drag VB and not a 4x4 one. Art Carr is the only one I know that makes a 4x4 reverse pattern/full manual VB. There page is a real mess, I hope it works for you.

Old Scout, the valve body that you are refering to was it from the new Art Carr or the old Art Carr?

Thanks for the help guys. We are hoping to make this valve body work and not have to shell out another $200 on this POS  , but if another valve body is what it takes than so be it.

This IS a race valve body I guess, but it is the only manual valve body that TCI offers for the 4L60 (they offer a few for TH400s and TH350s). The tech on the phone told us that it would hold us back in first gear only. Apparently he was mistaken... :mad3:
