: My trailer was ticketed! WTF..

So I am moving from the bay area to Sacramento and I took my trailer over to my parents for a couple of days till I could move it to its permanant storage.
The trailer is a 14' flatbed, with my cruiser on it.
I came back after a day to find a ticket on the trailer along with a little warning sticker.
The ticket is for Sac County Code 10.24.070(h) which is Unauthorized commercial vehicle parked in a residental area.

I was under the impression, as I have heard many times before, that I could park the trailer for 72 hours, but with this code, it is not allowed to be parked for more than 1 hour.

Has anyone heard anything about this? Why is my trailer considered commercial? $100 tickets kinda sucks, and I was wondering if I had anything to go on to fight it.

Thanks,

Chris

In AZ we have commercial and non-commercial plates for trailers. If it's like that by you, and you have non-commerical plates I would definately contest the ticket. The law sounds specific enough to me.

Same here. Commercial plates are pricier than non-commercial. I'd contest if they make that difference in your state.

I used to live in San Ramon. The city used to issue one permit per household for specialty vehicles.

Well I had a motorhome and a boat. Both would require permits.

So I had the motorhome hooked up to the boat overnight in front of the house. Some San Ramon cop pulls up and starts to write a ticket. So I get vocal and explain that I can only get a permit for one of them and it is BS that they can ticket me.

The guy hands me the ticket and says nothing. So I wait for some notice by mail, but nothing comes. It appears that the cop after leaving trashes his copy. Even he knew that it was BS.

Dude, I moved from San Jose to Elk Grove (just south of Sac) and all I can say is the cops around here are asses.

Last week the po po came to my door to serve a warrant for my arrest. Luckily I wasn't home, just the wife (imagine her suprise). You may wonder what the warrant was for??? One smoking vehicle ticket that I didn't pay.

WTF is up with that!!!

Here the rule is that you can't park a trailer on the street. All vehicles must be mobile if they are parked on a city street, a trailer not attached to a tow vehicle is not mobile. Maybe that's part of the reason they ticketed you.

well, if you arent allowed to park a commercial vehicle on the street for more than an hour, then isnt it illigal to park almost ANY truck on the street??

San Jose is just screwy like that..

Someone must have complained, normally people in my neighborhood park there shit in the driveways, but a few people have a couple to many cars and have them parked in the street..

I use to park my fullsize in the street.. When I back every thing out of hte garage and put all the cars in the street I look like a used car salesman.. Jeep, cruiser, Truck, car..

Here in Tn. if you pull a trailer and you aren't making money the DOT rules don't apply . No safety chains , no break away box , etc. It seems that Western U.S. DOT rules differ considerably from the East and South . Trade- off comes from having some of the most awesome trails anywhere . :flipoff2:

You sure you're not thinking of the Ag. excemption? A farmer can get away w/ no chains, being overloaded, etc., as long as they are not making money, ie. semi's w/ cattle trailers. I know over here, no chains will get you stopped by dot, hwy patrol, city, and county.

Quotas are actually illegal all across the country.(I think) I'm studying to become a cop in az, so i dont know about california law. But I agree with everyone else and the commercial vehical license plate law. It sounds like it was some sort of bored cop who just thought he could get away with it, or he didnt pay attention in the academy. Mabey he was just:smokin: .

I wheel w/ a large group of trailered rigs , mine included and it seems none of us ever have any trouble . A friend of mine checked with TDOT and they told him if he wasn't making a profit and his trailering was recreational some rules don't apply . I work at Franklin Co. Sheriffs dept. and we never stop for those things .Maybe lights not working or not using blinkers . I will check and reply later . I use all the safety shit I can on mine , breakaway box , safety chains and tied down at 4 corners . :flipoff2:
