33" mtr's
2" hockey puck body lift. w/ u-joint steering
345. built by me. mostly stock, (ported heads .030 over. hyperutectic pistons, re ground crank.)
i started building it as a sunday beach truck, hence the new steel quarters, floor supports, cab mounts, rockers( inner and outer) and 4" skyjacker spring under....... i was planning to wheel an old yj that i have and keep the scout nice......then i realized the scout is a mans vehicle and the yj is a sorrority sister's cruiser, so i ditched the yj and now i am building up the sII.

currently fabbing:
full cage 4130 1+3/4 od. (6 point) will tie to frame later
half doors. with steel box frame.
cutting full top to cab top and making a custom can-back.

i'm looking to ditch the 4" lift springs, for a set of 2" with spring over/ shackle reversal. ...my stock springs are junk. also i'm in search of a 1 ton set of diffs with disks......
i'm a 3rd yr mechanical engineering student at drexel university, so i dont get much free time to wheel/ work on the truck while i'm taking classes. gotta do it over co-op when the funds are available.....

Why 4130 1.75", and what wall thickness is it? Also how are you welding it?:)

4130 1 3/4...because i got a real good deal on it,... 0.120 wall.

and i am lightly pre-heating the weld spots with a torch and mig welding it. i know welding 4130 can be tough...do you have any experience?

If my memory serves me correct I pulled a ScoutII with 0 wheel drive, from the top of the granite bowl to the bottom and back up on Memorial Day. That thing was a TANK! Rust is a good thing for you guys. My Y:rainbow: J didnt like that at all. :D

You IH guys aren't half bad. Much better than Yota people :D

Welding Moly can be a bitch. MIG is the way to go IMHO. 4130 sucks up the heat like you wouldn't believe but if you get it too hot it'll crystalize and weaken. I you see white around your welds you got it too hot. I've never seen anyone preheat moly for MIG welding. My buddy welds 4130 Sand car frames all day long and he just sets the welder on stun and stitches everything. The welds turn out strong and good looking. I'd definately practice on your scrap before you weld your cage. Good luck

hmm, stitch...theres a thought,
i havent welded any of it yet. definately going to practice on ALL of my scraps before i start. if anyone else is a welder or a friend of a welder, i'd love to know the best method.

also, what % of you guys have your cages tied to the frame? just curious.
