: 7 leaf hd springs for cj rear
High5 07-01-2002, 05:15 PM i have had people e-mail me and have seen posts about how the jc whitney 7 leaf hd springs for the rear of a cj flex. i was pulling some pic's of my tellico trip off of the camera today when i found these pic's of me stacking my buddys jeep. anyway it shows how they flex for those who were interested. poser shot i know but it shows how the springs work.
btw i run these 7 leaf cj rear at all four corners

coiledcj7 07-01-2002, 10:22 PM nice pics!!!:flipoff2:
High5 07-02-2002, 06:38 PM here is a pic of them flexing in a real world situation.
AGGIECJ-7 07-02-2002, 08:12 PM how much total lift do you have?? and are those 38's? i want to run something simular, but im torn between rancho 44044's(which i heard give a little more lift over stock CJ springs as well as moving the axle) and 2.5" CJ's..
oh...the jeep is SOA...

i run these springs soa and i also have a 3" body lift. those are 42" tsl's. these springs give about 1" over stock rear springs. alteast that is what someone said. i didn's measure when i put them on mine.

AGGIECJ-7 07-02-2002, 09:10 PM i guess my springs have sagged a bit then. i am using stock springs and cut fenders. when the front flexes up it goes right into the inner fender/firewall....i figured that a body lift would solve this problem....or i would need to move the axle forward. even with 2.5's that i have and the 3" body lift that i have(both in the garage) i think i would still rub the fender with bigger tires....hell it would be worse with 42's....
do you have extended bumpstops...(im not even running them)..."tubbed" firewall....moved front axle...or full widths?
im tryin to figure out a way to eliminate the rubbing and i dont think that more lift will help cause i will just go to a bigger tire.
here is a pic of mine...it has 35's...

edit: i can not cut the rear fenders out anymore because i have already hit the innerfender. if you look you can see where the opening is not exactly smooth...
High5 07-02-2002, 09:30 PM my axles are 63" wide. i run extended bump stops in the front and as you can see lots of fender trimming. my frontend is moved 1.5" forward of the stock loaction. i moved it forward when i outboarded the springs and did a shackle reversal. i do not rub now but like i said i have lots of trimming.
you may be able to move your front end forward by redrilling your spring perches. you just have to make sure it will not bind anything in your steering linkage when you do.
you can use the stock style waggy springs like you mentioned before too. as you know they center pins are offset so you can get some added wheelbase like that. the stock waggy springs will also offer 1-2" of lift over the cj stuff.
Here is Knorrs busted in Colorado.
Turns out you don't need 4" springs SOA to clear 38's:rolleyes:
Nice flex High5. I just installed CJ7 rears at all four corners (SOA) with 36TSLs and have no experience with these yet. I'll be installing bumpstops this weekend but wanted opinions. Do your springs go into negative arch ? And is it a concern for long spring life?

Yes these will go to a negative arch. Here is what mine do.
Hey Jerry, only 5 days til Rubicon :D Have you followed the wildfires up there?
About those neg arch springs...you replacing them often? Just wondering if I should set bumpostops to avoid neg arch and just force the axle down sooner

i have bumpstops set on my front axle to help prevent the 42's from rubbing the fenders... or the lack there of. i have found with these springs, or any other spring for that matter, wrap kills the springs more than flexing into negative arch. YOU WILL NEED A TRACTION BAR ON THE REAR!!!!! ok with that said i actually removed the overload leaf from the packs in the rear. i tried it without in the front but i put them back in due to wrap. i still have alittle wrap in the front and the front springs have not lasted as long as a result. i have had the front springs sag some because of the wrap but the rear springs are still in great shape. they get flexed into negative arch on a regular basis too. i have a front traction bar built for the front. i just need to refab a bracket onto the frame. i want to see what happens with one on the front. while the traction bar is not needed on the front i want to see how much one will help and how it performs with one. we'll see.
Yep, traction bar is on in the rear. I thought about the front but not sure how to proceed. I suppose i need to keep the front pinion from diving down under power. Should the frnt trac bar just mirror the rear one?
High 5, thanks for the schooling on leaf spring longevity. I was paranoid of neg arching the springs but i guess alittle don't hurt

i built one for the front just like the one in the rear. i use the ladder style with the shackle at the end. i installed the front one once but ripped the mount and part of the inner frame rail off the first run with it so i can't say how it will work. i forgot how thin the inner frame rails on a cj are!!
Howdy 07-28-2002, 10:39 PM I also run the 7 leaf HD CJ springs at all 4 corners.I just put them on recently. Here are a few pics from a couple weeks ago.
