Well there she is. I have plans to add a frame tie that bolts to the unibody where the hitch used to be, but haven't gotten around to that yet. I like it, although it's a little tighter to the body than I wanted. Maybe next time.

Looks pretty good. Weld the whole thing and make it one big bumper for max stregth, and paint it. It should come out pretty nice. :smokin:

Does the D-ring mount run through to the frame or is it just attached to the bumper?

Looks pretty good, very clean.

Yes it is tied into the mount. I thought I had a picture of it, but no such luck, It's actually about 8-10" long and goes almost all the way against the rear crossmember.

Nice, it drives me nuts to see tabs just welded to the bumper.

How many hours do you have doing all that welding and grinding? Looks good, just looks like it took forever.

Just my opion I wouldnt want that bumper on my rig. I like how bumpers go with the body, the smooth look.

no it saves the body from the trees Yes they are axle shafts the save the tail lights and give you a place to wind muddy tow straps.

The time it took is hard to estimate, I worked probably about 4-5 hours putting most of it together, however the finish welding and grinding i did between jobs and other projects. I'd say probably 10-12 total, It's not the most economical way to build it that's for sure, would've been less work had I had some 2x5 or 2x6 box tube, but the only thing I actually paid for was paint and the hitch receiver. That was the whole essence of my build I took a bunch of scrap I had to make something useful.

for your first project .. I would say you did a great job

Thank you guys for the compliments but it isn't my first project, just the first one I was brave enough to subject to the Pirate forums. :D

why only one D ring mount and are you going to do any quarter protection?

The D ring mount was a hitch piece I had laying around, and the only reason there's one is simply that it's all I had laying around. I have a Dodge W350 I'm building up, and a 73 Plymount Valiant I'm restoring so the Jeep gets put on the back burner most of the time due to $$$$ going elsewhere. I have I clevis hitch that I'll also use, and 2 D rings on the front bumper so I don't think it'll be that hard to find somewhere to latch onto. Although time and my ability to bury the poor thing may prove me wrong somewhere down the line :p

As for quarter protection, I do have a plan for that, and the bumper was made with that in mind. Just that my time and money is divided so I couldn't go along with all of it at once. The fact that the XJ is my DD during the cold months didn't help the time constraint either.

Thank you guys for all the praise, happy to hear I earned some approval!

I still dont see why you would put shafts there. Just use D-rings that you can put on your bumper, instead of making it look like crap in the back. :smokin:

It has D rings to pull off the sharts are some thing i saw in a magazine once they do work to save my tail lights.
