: Front Shock Question

Is it true that the shocks help to prevent axel wrap?
If so is it lots or not really a big deal?

I have a SPOA front and would like to mount the shocks on the U-bolt plate
in the center facing the wheel and moving the upper mount directly above it.

Will this work?
Sorry no pictures posted, however I could e-mail them to someone if they thought they could help me.

Thank you

hi guy
i dont know if i did it right but my front mount is just a 6 inch grade 8 bolt i cut the head off the bolt and tacked a big washer on it then put it on the shock i then positioned the bolt on the lower {stock spring perch}spring perch it looks about like a 40
degree angle i then clamped it in place and welded it down it seems to work just fine oh yeah im useing bds shocks

I would use a grade 5 bolt, the grade 8's are to brittle. The 8's are good for some things but they won't bend they just snap, the 5's will bend at least thats my understanding.

This is what I think you are referring to. I took a 1/2" bolt, cut the head off, and welded it to the spring perch. For the upper, I used Ford shock towers. Oh, and yes, I have plenty of up-travel; just right to keep the tires off the body. :flipoff2: ~Steve

How much uptravel?
I can only get about 5.5 inches before mine hits the factory bumpstops.

That is exactly what I am talking about..

Do you see any performance issues with this setup?

No, the set-up works great. I need the lack of up travel due to how well my suspension flexes. With these shocks (30" extended length) they limit my droop, even with the 4"ish up travel. ~Steve

I didn't cut the mounts at all. It was a tight fit, but they just squeezed in without cutting the mount or the wheel-well. They are welded on. ~Steve
