Hey everyone,

I finally got a chance to get on the 'net down here. I'm still in Cusco, Peru, where my brother and I have been for the last week or so, and will be for another two weeks more. There is a ton of great wheelin' here in the Peruvian Andes of South America, but nobody has any decent rigs. There are a lot of stockish diesel powered TLC's, but the most common car by far is a Daewoo Tico, which is a 4 door civic hatchback looking thing that has been put in the shrinking machine at 75%. They are very underpowered, but get 60 km/gallon in the city, used as taxis (there are easily 20 taxis for every private car here). I have seen a couple IH's, though. A thoroughly abused C-series pickup, here in Cusco, and a D-line 3/4 ton in Lima, Peru. Not many, though. Nobody can afford new cars here. They are in the habit of importing worn-out cheap Japanese cars. The monetary unity here is the Sol, and there are 3.48 soles to one U.S. dollar, as I write. You can take a taxi anywhere in the city for 2 soles (about 60 cents).

Joe, obviously I can't get that tube just yet, being I'm kind of on the other side of the planet right now. If this is going to become a problem, well....let me know.

We're climbing to Machu Pichu next week, and have already visited an assload of other Incan ruins and stuff. It's pretty tight, though somewhat coolish at night being that it is winter season here and Cusco is at 11,000' elevation....

Oh...and it is nice to speak english for a change. I've had to speak Spanish constantly, and I'm starting to lose my mind. :) At least the beer is good (Cusqueña).

Also aqui are many vendadores by the streets. They bother much to me, so that always they estan preguntandome "Quires one postcard, friend" and other things. In fact, habia a boy last night who was walking with me, who quieria that I give my suns to! Then, I said, "Escuchame well, boy. Work very lasts to win to my money, and you do not work, then I am not going to give nothing you ". To my I do not like people like that. Specially when they are only seven years old as this boy had.

Then, I must regrasar to discotec, where they have the musica sauce and all dance and take beer by all the night! to:beer: Ciao...:flipoff2: P.S. I am not going to be responsible for like 4 or 5 but days, so that I have many other things for hacer.:D

Sounds like loads of fun. My wife and I are planning a horseback expedition through the sierra madres in Mex next fall to visit the Huichol Indians. I wanted to drive but their are no gas stations on the way.

If you run into anyone from the Medellin Cartel, tell them I want my money.:D

Ok, here I am again as promised.

Joe, what the hell kind of cheap internet translator did you run my post through to get that spanglishized response? :flipoff2:

Here's *my* translation:

Yes, of course. All the women here have dark hair and brown eyes. I'd like to bring some back to the states, but I can't. These women really like white men, like myself, because they think we are in the money (we're rich, you know).

There are also a lot of street vendors here. They drive me nuts, because they're always asking me "Would you like a postcard, friend?" and other such shit. In fact, there was a little boy last night that was walking with me, that wanted me to give him my cash! So, I told him "Listen to me good, buster. I work very hard to earn my money, and you don't even work, so I'm not going to give you anything!" I don't like those kind of people. Especially when they're only seven years old like this kid was.

Well, I should get back to the bar/disco, where they've got the salsa music and everybody dances and drinks beer all night!

Later...

P.S.
I'm not going to write back for like 4 or 5 more days, because I have a bunch of other shit to do.

Anyway, that's what I wrote. Harvester of Sorrow, I hope you have a great time in Mexico, if you get down there for that "inspection" ;)

I'll be back in the states around 16th July. Catchya all around then, as I'll be backpacking to Machu Pichu on the Incan trail for the next 5 days, 45 kilometers from the nearest internet service. ;)

later...

El Alta Vista...yea, it pretty much butchered your message.

Enjoy your backpack expedition...don't forget to get pics of the local indians wearing Billabong shorts and Blackflys sunglasses.
