Looking For axles?
I don't know if you guys keep up with the Toyota board, but if you do you've heard about Longfield Super axles. Which according to Bobby Long, Who produces them, they are similar to Birfields on Toyota's. Anyway, Bobby told me that if any of you guys are interested, he would talk to anyone of you about the possibility of making up Super axles for Land Rovers, maybe even setting up a free pair for one of you to test. Here's the info if you're interested:ORDERING INFORMATION:

Too late adam,

I already talked to him.

I am mailing a sacraficial set out tomorrow and once he has destroyed them I will send out a new set for longfielding.

Ron

Note: there is no axle question in this post, thus I adhere to my own rule.

You know beefing the birfs on a ten spline axle isn't going to help that situation. I've got a set of 24 spliners I'd be willing to "test"

FJ40wheeler-
thanks for the info, there was actually some mention of him doing this for the rover guys...can't remember the thread though.

Actually,

The birfs are the same between a 10 spline and a 24 spline on the ABS range rovers. And the early 23 spline inners (with 10 spline at the diff) are actually better cvs.

But we are all 24 spline snobs over here

Ron-

He said 88 RR, no ABS. But my point was more to the fact that a 1" 10 spline axle is even less likely to hold up to a cryo treated birf than a 1.25" 24 spline. Either way I hope it works out cause we would all be happier with stronger front ends:D :D

Johnathan

This is probably were Doug chimes in mumbling something about a dana 60.

So whats this guy actually going to do the the cvs. Does he weld a ring on to the end of the bell and then reheat treat??? Does he do anything to the star. I can remember a while back people talking about getting this done and thinking it wouldnt be worth doing cause rovers break the star and not the bell????

If he wants a Pirate4x4 product review I'm your man.

Send me a set and I'll hammer them and write up a review just like the other ones on the POR front page: http://www.pirate4x4.com/welcome1.html

5.5 million hits a month is a great deal of exposure. :vader:

I have a new pair of the 110 CV's on order to go with mcnamarra inner axles. These are the supposidly good 23 spline CV's.
I'd be willing to test them in the little sluice till they break:)

Ok raise your hand if you ever changed a CV?

The "24" splines are only 24 at the diff, they are 32 spline 1in at the cv. The earlier ones are 23 spline and bigger at the cv but 10 spline at the diff

100s of them! I worked as a mechanic in a Porsche/Audi/BMW shop for a few years when I was going to CSUS.

Yep, I'd imagine most of us have changed a CV or two, you are correct as I just looked at my stock spare. I didn't remember it necking down, and it does to 1.03" at the CV end. I do, however,
run the 24 spliners mated to the 23 spline CV which is 1.20" at the CV end in my 90.
