i've been following a few of the threads on portal axles and would like to educate myself a little better.
what axles to run?
gearing options?
disc brake setups?
steering setups?
lockers available if not OEM?
parts availability?
anybody broken these, and what?
where to buy?
......
i know that's a lot of pretty broad questions but i've got to start somewhere and everybody's input is welcome!
i wish i would have learned a thing or two about 2.5 ton rockwells before i put a set in my chevy cause they SUCK!:flipoff2:

Hi,
Having read everything over the last year or so I have come up with the following conclusions:
Mog axles are strong but like 2.5 tons they require some creativity to fit.
Mog hybrid axles are strong and cool and easier to fit but are crazy $$$$
Volvo axles are nice for more of an easy fit bolt on thing, but I don't think they are as strong as mog's and they are really hard to find.
The avalanche ones are $$$$$
They all come stock with lockers (except hybrids which would use ford 9in or D60 or whatever) gearing is steep to absurd (5.2ish for 2.50 in the diffs and 2.1ish reduction on JR's hybrids to 7.5+ in some mogs).
I guess for the 35-37 and under crowd volvos will work but for the big tire crowd mog is the way to go.
