I've heard good things about both companies, but heard in the smaller welders the miller is the way to go. Any one used either of these? I will probably run down to the local shop to check them out before I order and to price the tanks but was hoping for some advice from others also.

If you are looking at spending $500 step up to the Hobart Handler 175 220v unit... $535 to your door.

I was concidering the hobart, but didnt know they were now made by miller. I will probably get one of those cause like glenns post they are cheap.

Paniolo: The problem I see is if I get 220 I will have to run a LONG extension cord from my drier in the basement to the driveway on the other side of the house, i think there would be alot of resistance and I would trip the breaker alot.

i recently got a Hobart 175, it's not as heavy duty as the comparable miller but if you're not gonna weld as a profession it will likely last your lifetime. go big and and get the 220V 175 you wan't be disappointed. $550 shipped from cyberweld

if you search for hobart in the gen4x4 section you can find a thread where a guy details the differences between the hobart 175 and the miller 172.

They're expensive. That's all. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> Instead, I put 30' leads on my stick welder and kept the 5' cord..

On my 110V MIG I have a heavy gauge 80' extension cord to make it mobile.

What about just wiring an outlet to the garage for 220V? 6-gauge 3+G is around $1.50/ft.
