: V8 kit for TJ..?
jeep_freek 01-16-2008, 10:36 PM Anyone know of a place to get a 350 V8 (fuel injected) kit w\auto trans and all the extras needed for a SWAP..? Will need a good beefy D44(w\4.56's & disc brakes) for the rear as well and how about a shop that can do this..? The bearings in the bottom end of my inline 6 are rattling and I want some new mega power in it.
I'm in florence, so the closer the better. I wanna drive it in and drive it out.
Estimated cost: $5000.00..??? does this sound about right?
ps. the current engine has a banks header, AFE cold air intake with an Edge trail jammer kit. Depending on if it still runs when I'm ready to do this swap, I will part it out.

you can do a 5.3 chevy or a 5.2 dodge works well to. i have done a lot of research on doing this. i had a customer that was going to do a 5.2 but has never come up with the money.
from what i've seen 5000.00 maybe enough if you find the engine for a good deal, the mounts and adapters are not to spendy.
have you found somewhere to do it yet???
clifyrus 02-18-2008, 11:56 AM Hey contact the guys down at Spalding's. They may be able to help you out with the engine and computer stuff there was a couple guys down there setting up engines for application in other vehicles.

5.3 litre.. isn't that like a 305, 327 or 383 CID..? I could do that.. I'm just wanting a V8 replacement.
One guy with a shop in Canby, Or. has contaced me. Other than that.. I haven't found anyone else yet.

i have not done one yet, but neither have most shops, and if i don't do one soon i will be doing one in my brother wrangler. i'll be doing a 5.3 in his because it is an 87, but in a newer one like yours i think that a 5.2 would be a better fit mainly because the 5spd out of a pick-up is the same spline and bolt pattern as the jeep t-case and the wiring harness/ecm will communicate with your dash so all your gauges will work. can be done with a gm but more of a pain in the ass.
just my 2 cents man,

just my 2 cents man,
I'm gonna stick with an auto trans. I aint doing the work, so I'm not worried about it being a PITA.
spaldings.com
Thanx..
I checked their Ebay site.. They had 11 engines and the first one being a nice 2001 SILVERADO TAHOE 5.3 ENGINE which as you say would work.. and I emailed them about an auto trans for it. They also had a SWEET LS2 motor as well. Now that would scream in a TJ. :D
clifyrus 02-18-2008, 09:42 PM Hey i'm a dodge guy BUT in this case i strongly lean to the 5.3 even though it's harder to do I would go with the chevy 5.3 it's a much stronger motor. I'm a fan of the new generation 327 they run out great.

I won't hold it against you.. lol.. I'm a dodge fan too.. gotta love them mopars. I had a '72 charger once. It had the monster motor 440. Loved it. too bad I got stupid and sold it. Love their trucks old and new too. In fact.. when the last of my lawsuit money comes in, I'll be selling my '07 Tacoma 4x4 and buying one of them extra cab diesels.
a 5.3 in my TJ would be ok.. I just want the V8 power. After seeing the 5.3 spaldings.com has.. There's alot of CRAP\Electronics on them. I'm thinking more like a nice 350 with injection.. and chromed out.. without the mile or wire on it.. oh.. can't forget the paddles too.. on all four. No sand dune too big..! Once it's done that is.

Actually my shop is in Newberg. I still believe the best compromise between what you want and budget is the 89 to 92 TBI 350. You can buy a donor truck with everything you need for $1000 to $2000. The entire drivetrain can swap over, wiring, etc... You wont need to buy adapters and you wont have to wonder if your Jeep parts will hold up to the V-8 power(except axles). Parts are cheap. The injection system is dirt simple. Just my .02

I knew that.. I was thinkin about the bog I went to up there.. :shaking:
Well.. today was a MAJOR breaking point for me and mywhtjp today..
When it rains it pours as they say too. Last sunday, I trucked my quad out back on the dunes.. hit a couple little bumps and the quad bounced.. wasn't a problem until I hit the brake pedal and WHAM.. the quad busted out the back window and bowed out my tailgate too. estimate is: $2,580..
so I was taking the truck over to the repair shop today and was flat towing my Jeep into eugene and was about 2 miles from veneta when something let loose. My front driveshaft or something in the tcase screwed up.. and I felt a tug.. I looked in the mirror and traffic was backing off behind me. So.. as they say.. pictures say a million words: http://s181.photobucket.com/albums/x29/mywhtjp/lucy/bad%20day/
I'm trying not to cry.. lol.. $1000 deductible.. and I've been wanting to do a V8 kit in Lucy. So.. I'm looking at another possible $7500 which probably doesn't include that D44 rearend..?
-going nuts today..!

Simple man- I have a D70 rear with 4.56's and full size 44 front. We'll back half the jeep, link it up, add some coil overs, V-8 her, etc... Your on your way to a jeep speed rig. :grinpimp:

What are you going to do for a dash/insturment cluster? Wiring harness & where are you putting the computer?
jeep_freek 02-24-2008, 09:57 PM I'll hopefully not have any issue with wiring and want to use the stock dash\gauges.. but time will tell. It looks like I'll be stuffing a SBC injected 350 into it.
Computer..? Not sure of that either.. wherever it fits I suppose.. Got any idea's..? This is all new to me.

Jorge Meza 02-24-2008, 11:01 PM I got a '89 Totalled Camaro with a 350 TPI for $300 at www.copart.com. So i took the engine with harness and then bought a 4x4 700R4 tranny for another $300. Spend another $200 in conversion engine mounts and another $2000 in labor for the conversion and you are done in my opinion...

dang..! I can afford that. Anything to save some $$$. Right on. Thanx for the idea. I'll get to searching Copart. I have a link to a guy selling his 700R4 trans and tcase.. guess I'll have to see what he wants for them..?
binderbound 02-26-2008, 03:46 PM What are you going to do for a dash/insturment cluster? Wiring harness & where are you putting the computer?
The TBI set up is a stand alone system that only needs 3 wires from the new vehicle to run. I can get everything in the stock dash to talk to the GM motor except the tach. We are probably gonna have to put in an aftermarket tach.
jeep_freek 02-26-2008, 10:07 PM Hmm... I think I could get used to that.. but would it take the same place as the original one or put one on the dash..? It's hard to believe it wouldn't "connect" to the factory one. Oh well..! Whatever makes it work..
