billj 07-02-2002, 07:10 AM If you donīt mind a bit of constructive critisism, your bumperīs cool but your bumper mounting sucks...:flipoff2: :D
Seriously, youīre likely to rip those bolts right thru the chassis holes on the first or second good pull. Itīs obvious that you either know how to weld and cut metal or have access to someone who does, so youīd be wise to get some more beef into those frame rail ends.
Get some 3/16" steel plate and some cross tubes for the bolts to pass thru and not crush the frame rails.

Yep :emb2: , those cross tubes are coming and I will do extra support to the tube between frame rails. I had same kind of mounting at my SJ410 w/ same Warn M8000 and frame holes are loose as old lady:eek:

I was thinking the same thing. The mounts could use some work.
Tessal, you should also add some reinforcment to the bracket for the ubolt around the frame tube. Check out how Gary Wheeler (http://www.wheelersoffroad.com) does it. He also adds a steel tube inside the round crossmember. Then has a reinforced bracket that has the ubolts that go around the round crossmember.

Those u-bolts are not holding my bumper. My custom toyota radator is supported with them.
I will do u-bolt support later with M12 bolts:smokin:

Ah. It was kind of hard to tell in the pics. If you want, I can take some better pics of how my Wheeler's bumper hooks up. The ubolt mounts are kind of difficult to see in the pics on the site.

Yes please thank you!
M.Martian 07-02-2002, 10:30 AM Here are the bumper mounts on my Wheeler's bumper. I also have the Canyon State YJ kit up front so the mounts had been modified slightly.
The 2 ubolts and the 2 rear bolts are normally the only ones holding the bumper on. The 2 bolts normally run all the way through the frame. There is a frame end cap which has square tubing that the bolts run through to keep the frame from collapsing when they are tightened down.

I agree that it looks feable, but that isn't much different from the ARB bumper mounting system. The only difference I can see is that the ARB has HD crush sleeves on the tiny 7/16" bolts where it attaches to the frame. I had an ARB bumper and winched hard on it and towed it all over creation with no distortion. I sold it to a buddy who had the hitch slip off his ball when towing. The tow bar hit the pavement, bug in, vaulted the rig into the air, and rolled the bumper over so that it was completely horizontal  . With all that, the bumper mounting tabs bent like crazy, but the frame was undamaged. Pretty amazing.
I would agree that you need a better mounting system though. If the ARB bumper was a little stouter at the mounting points (like yours appears to be), it would be the frame that gets tweaked instead of the bumper. That would make for a bad day.
By the way, good job on the fabrication. :)
NC Zuk 07-02-2002, 05:42 PM Hey Tessal,
That thing is really cool. It's nice to see some innovation. As for the Zuk, what year is that thing? Those square headlights are definately different. I've seen alot of Zuks in South America, up to 98 model year. But I've never seen square headlights. Looks like you have a winner in the bumper though!
:usa: :beret:
Tessel, that's a pretty good design. You have to get a website up and list all the mod's that you've done esp. with that Volvo tranny

That's SJ413 LWB resin top, it's sold here as '87 model but it is narrow track so the correct model year must be '85.
It's now running with Tracker 1.6 8v, Tracker tranny+t-case and SJ413 t-case:)

I haven't had time to get web site done but maybe someday... will see...:D :D
DemoMike 07-03-2002, 11:38 AM How'd the tracker t-case to sammie t-case install go? Did you have to relocate the sammie t-case? How long is the tracker trannie/t-case combo? How about the drive line between the two, what'd you do there?
I've got questions, do you have answers? TIA:D
