Jason M 07-02-2002, 07:15 AM So I swing by the house to chech on my cruiser and it is dripping something from underneath. Look closer and see that it is dripping from the clutch cover. Look even closer and find out that it is GASOLINE that is dripping out of the clutch cover. Aww S@#%. All the lines look good, no leaks anywhere there. Pull the aircleaner and the carb is slowly (not all that slow actually) dripping gas into the throat of the carb. Dam..
Pull the gas cap and, Whoosh!! Tons of pressure.
Looks like the pressure buildup in the gas tank actually caused enough gasoline to leak into the carb to make it into the cylinders and then fill my oilpan with gas... Which then was able to leak out of the rear main..
Okay, opinions, how much damage will this cause?
Can I just drain everything and refill it and be okay??? Or do I have to do something more etreme???
No more, with the turbo I am just goign to be running weber power...
rugburn 07-02-2002, 07:28 AM Jason,
I had a similar hapinstance on my F motor whill running an electric fuel pump.
Throttle cable was frigged from a trail fix with a bike cable and the throttle position stayed open just enough to wash the cylinders down with go juice.
Got home, smelled gas, saw the throttle but it was too late.
Fawker locked up on me the next day with a rear wheel lock up that looked like an Indy car stalling into the wall.
Needless to say, drain everything, maybe pour some lube into the spark plug holes after removing them and the coil wire and spin that sucker back into lubedom.
Might be a good time to add some flashy additives back onto the cylinder walls as well.
HTH.
Keep cool, don't let the honeymoon end!!!!!
:smokin:  :usa:
wngrog 07-02-2002, 07:52 AM Damn dude, I have done that with water...gas is a better deal than that!
I would just be converned about that rear main...that would suck if the gas wore that out.
Hell you are about to pull alof that anyway though....
Get some Lucas additive drain it all out and giddy up, you will be fine.
It is a 2F for God's sake!:flipoff2:
Which gas cap have you got. My origonal never built pressure, the aftermarket replacement does (just because it fits doesn't mean it's right). We had a hot day (ok, it was only 90 but this is Seattle) and my tank pressurized. I had a stream of fuel coming out of the fuel return line I am installing for my EFI. Undid the cap and whoosh, the presure vented and it stopped pissing.
Got to get the right cap from the dealor soon!!
:usa:
Jason M 07-02-2002, 08:07 AM I will probably end up pulling the dist and pre lubing the dam thing after I clean it out throughly.
And the cap is no longer a worry. I am going to throw away that gas can...
I'll probably just replace the SM and rear main seal when I have it apart..
helocat 07-02-2002, 08:18 AM Holy crap I have never heard of this. Makes since if the gas pressure had no where to go, still it sucks! When you drain your block I would suggest doing it like a water salvage job, pull all the spark plugs and oil pan. Buy pulling the pan you can make sure all the fuel logged oil is out. Since you are dealing with gas I would let the block breath for a day or so with the plugs and pan out. Then put it back together add some oil and I bet that sucker barks to life, especially if it’s a 2F! As for the seal being toast, I doubt it was hurt if it did not sit with the gas on it too long. (I am sure it did not do it any good) The thing that most likely would finish it off would be if the seal was allowed to dry completely out over a month or two.
Good luck with it!
GloNDark 07-02-2002, 08:54 AM Mine did that last summer. Piece of crap. I tried several gas caps, factory and after market before finally just swapping the same tank out for a fuel cell.
Last week while I was at home, I set the cruiser out front everyday in 90 plus degrees with the fuel cell in the bed of the truck, no shade, so needless to say very warm. No more problems. I noticed a little moisture built up in the breather filter that I put on the vent line but nothing to be concerned with. :D:D:D
krcruiser 07-02-2002, 09:33 AM jason,
sorry to here about the hassle...just drain everything and fill it up, you might try using a drill motor and prepriming the bearing surfaces with oil if at all possible.
I usually over fill the charcoal canister the state makes me run when my tank expands...I guess having the damn thing is not all bad.
Congrats on the wedding

Jason M 07-02-2002, 10:14 AM LOL, I have not had a charcoal canister or a return line on this thing for a very long time now.
Which is probably the main reason for my problem. Kinda wierd that it finally happened now though..
Like I said, no more issues with the Gas cap or Gas anything. I am just going to run pure propane from now on. IT will fit better under the hood anyway..
I cannot imagine why Gasoline would hurt a rubber seal. The cork seals I can see but not hte rubber ones.
I am still going to check it though ;)
Glo I would love 90* temps, it has been reliably 110+ here recently. :mad3:
Hows the baby?

110 plus??? Fawk that!! LOL Might as well move to the surface of the sun man. ;)
The baby is awesome. I can't believe all the things that change and progress on a daily basis. He hates being in the house, but you take him out in the garage, strap the car seat in the cruiser and he is good to go. hahaha That's my boy!! what a crack up.
Now it's time to get cracking on a new "Bird cage" My life in the cruiser is one thing, but now that Christopher is here, I want it to be extremely safe :D:D
Anybody got a bender they wanna let me use??

Prety much, This is the first time the gas thing has happened. So I think if I lived in Reno still I would have been okay.
LOL good kid
Ann and I decided not to wait. Ours is in the works.. ;)
That was my reason for designing the one that I did. And the main reason I did not just tube the rear.
Fun stuff
Cruzilla 07-02-2002, 03:43 PM Question,... how does the charcole system work? Does the tank vent to the canister then to the manifold, and the engine burns whats left?
