damage report? :D

Yea!!! Bloody thing fell over yesterday. It was as funny as hell. I didnt hurt myself. Only panel work dented was the very front outside wing was pushed in by about 1/2 inch which I had hit previously and just pulled it out again. Also bent the front hoop ofthe cage, it pushed sidways about 1in at the top. The front hoop is tied onto the windscreen pivot tabs and it bent them so Im going to tie it on to the bulkhead a bit better. So essencially I go no damage :D

This is how it happened. We were mucking around taking some video clips with the digital camera. The thing is it can only take bursts in about 10sec lots so what I drive needs to be less than 10sec. So I drove over the rocks a few different ways and took some clips. Anyway a picked a line through the rocks and did a trial run and drove through slowely and thought it was a preety cool line so then I looped around to drive it again for the video clip but I drove a bit faster trying to make it through in less than 10sec. Well got a little bit of momentum as the rear kicked up onto a tall rock and given the weight and big unsprung weight it got to the top and kept going up and flipped me over.

So anyway the bottom line is I got the flop on a video clip. Not a very good clip but worthwile. Its an AVI file about 600kb. Who wants it - post me your email.

Heres a pic.

Thanks for posting that Sam...I was trying to get some still's to post from the vid you sent, but I was..Well...Not able to.

You've got me nervous now my friend! Your ride height is a lot lower than what I'm planning, and your track-width doesn't seem too far off from mine. What is your overall width (sidewall to sidewall)? I finally got an accurate measurement, and I'm right at 84.5" (in the front).

Does anyone remember what a stock D90 overall track width is? I'd like to gauge what my increased track width is to how much lift I have (estimated at 11+" from stock...Measuring from the ground to the bottom of the frame rails I get 28" now  ) I believe that the stock ride height is at 17" from the ground to the bottom of the frame rails...

My overall goal is to maintain the stock CG...And, from what I've heard, a 2:1 ratio of track-width to lift is optimal to maintain a static CG. I doubt that I've increased my track width 22" but I wouldn't be surprised it it's 16-18" or so...Time to start thinking about them sway bars that's for sure!

hey doug last time i fugured it out i think that a stock rover on 265/75s is about 66.5" OST... so you are almost there.

my truck will be hopefully SLIGHTLY lower than sams (about an inch) and i will have about an inch and a half of track width on on. i think he said he was at 83"???

Well, when you fit that front 60 under your rig, you'll know why I'm as high <as in altitude AND attitude> as I am...Sure I could drop a few inches, but the frame distance from the axle on a 42" tire almost necessitates going pretty darn high to clear that big pig (with the axle forward 6")...O'wait..I forget were you are now...Last thing I heard was you were downsizing to a 44 and 37's...Are you back on track with the 60 and 42's?

Have you decided on a lump yet?

Things get pretty complicated pretty quickly eh? I'm glad I'm goin' the route I am now. At first damn near everybody was telling me to "just build a buggy"...Well I'm hear to tell you, if you work in a shop, or aren't married and work in a shop, and/or have a $hitload of disposable time, then yea, build a buggy. If you work full time, have a family and other interests, then plan on spending a lot more time than you initially think. Now that I look at it, there is no way in heck that I could have pulled off a buggy at this stage in my life...Well at least not in a few months...More like 2 years.

For me I've got a few necessary tools at my disposal, and some decent shop space...Still, finding the time is a push when ya' got a lill' blue eyed 3 year old girl that want's to spend time with Daddy...She just melts my heart to the point that I find I'm putting on my swim trunks and heading to the pool rather than leathers and bustin' out the welder!

Quick story (I'm procrastinating on a project here at work)...The other night I was meeting a friend at the shop to finish up the ram-mount. I was just leaving the house, heading for the shop, when Amanda (my daughter) looked up at me and asked if she could help me...I then asked her..."Can you weld?" She looked at me blankly...Then I asked, "Can you use a grinder?"...Blank...Then I asked, "Well then, can you at least use a drill press?"....She then looked at me and replied..."Daddy, I can't do doze "big" tings', but I can help with the "little" tings'."

Now imagine a 3 year old red-head with the biggest blue eye's in the world looking up at you blinking patiently with hope and love as far as you can see in them...Damn. What's a guy to do? <snif...>

So did you fall all the way to the ground through the cab?? I was just wondering since you sit on the right side of the vehicle. Glad that you and the truck are alright. I love what youve done with your truck, and that writeup on your buildup you did awhile ago was great.

Doug,

Im 83in outside of sidewall to outside of sidewall and your at 84.5?? My WMS would be 66in (including the spacers) with 10in rims on 4in backspace. Arnt you 69in wms 12in rims and 4in backspace???

When I put the 69in WMS D60 up front I think I will be about 87in outside to outside with 3.5in backspace on the 10in rims.

But anyway I dont think that overall height will make much difference because you will always drive it to its limits no matter how high or low it is. If your not going to compete (are you??) then you only need to be about as stable as the rest of your mates that you go wheeling with. Although I guess that the lower it is the better it will work in everything except for break over.

You got them coilovers anyway and I bet you could lower it 6in easy just by adjusting the top collar and getting rid of that top little spring that will do nothing except take up room :flipoff2:

hey doug. i havent moved my 60 under the front end of the frame yet to check clearances... mostly because i just picked up the 60 yesterday and dont have the frame yet! :D

i have decided to run a Ford 460. why ford? cheaper, more powerful in stock form, and there is a stroker kit available that will punch it out to EIGHT-HUNDRED-SIX cubic inches  i dunno why i would want that power, but its nice to know that i could if i wanted to :D

my 60 is a dodge unit (PS diff). the way i am going to deal with the wrong side offset of the tcase is run a married ford 205, to a divorced chevy/dodge 205 that will put the front output down the PS. also give me a cheap 4:1 low.

for now i will be running the 4.10s that came in the axles, along with a NP435. my crawl will still be plenty low at 109:1, especially with the big V8! the other bonus to this is that i will save a shiteload by not having to regear the pigs.

this will also allow me a good highway crusing speed at decent RPMs. this truck wont be made for the highway, but i will drive it every so often just for the hell of it (and to pick up chicks! heheh)

why dont ya shoot me an email and we'll talk more if you like.
