Front Dana 60 with 5.86 gears and ARB. The next project is to fabricate steering arms. The tie rod will go behind the axle and the front half of the arms will connect to regular drag link and hydro-assist ram. Tires are 42" TSLs.

Great to hear that your suspension with the stronger springs is kicking butt, Jeff. My 1/4 elliptical is not yet installed. I need to finish work on the rear D60. Then, following the July RCAA competition in Cedar City, SnortClown will come down to my shop to set up the suspension. So, hopefully in a couple weeks, I will at least have a rolling chassis.

Another view of the drivetrain. You can also see the control arm hangers clamped to the frame rails.

DTS diff cover with preloads on the front housing?
Summit Racing version of the same. 1/2" thick Al. What I really like about these covers is that they give you more room to route the air line for the ARB.

You and Nolen may have to chain the bumpers together and do a pull off.

I think you guys are pretty close in terms of tires, HP and final gearing.

you may get him with the wheelbase!

Double take!  Yikes that is quite the rig Jack! You are not messing around with this dude! What kind of body are you going to put on it?

Looks great!

The body is a '65 FJ45 with removable top. Front fenders will be narrowed about 4" and raised 2" into the apron. The box will be narrowed so that the sides are flush with the frame and shortened. This will completely eliminate the wheelwells. Hopefully these mods to the body will provide lots of room for suspension travel while keeping the height down.

With the mods to the fenders and aprons will you be able to keep the factory look on the outer lip? I have though about cutting the inside line to help pull the fender in, but cutting the apron is a great idea, for added clearance. Kind’a a chopped front end look. Sounds like you are going to have an incredible rig once it is finished with the main build up. (Notice I did not say finished, rigs like this are never really finished… or at least that is my short experience.)

Yep! The twin for this truck will be my daily drive and tow rig. By making one cut in each of the 4 front fenders and then welding them back together, I can make one pair 4" narrower and the other pair 4" wider and retain the original lip of each fender. The street rig will get the wide fenders and the truggy gets the narrow ones.

I am VERY interested to see how you move the fenders up. I kept the lip on my fenders, but I have done it with LONG bumpstops.

I have no complaints in the performance, but it would be nice to have all the uptravel I can.

Please take your usual photos of this process.

I love having an extreme Cruiser that still looks like a Cruiser :D

Georg, you are probably going to come up here and kick my fat butt -- I just don't see me finishing in time for the FJ45 run:mad3: I have a lot of body work to do, and in all liklihood it will be into the fall before I am finished. This one-day-per-week with the Cruisers is a real PITA.:nuke:

How wide is that front axle? Do you have any close up pics of the spring perch on the pumpkin (passenger side)?? I am dropping a full width 44 in the front of my cruiser (this winter when I can afford the gears the 60 will go in) and I don't really want to outboard the springs.

My uncle can weld it but I haven't seen anyone do it yet.

Medusa

The front axle was narrowed to 64.5" (WMS). I have a tech article (http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~jrice/cruiser/D60HD/D60.html) on my website that goes into some detail on the options for putting wide front axles in cruisers. There is also a pretty detailed picture of the passsenger's spring perch on that page, as well as a detailed explanation on how I narrowed the axle housing.
