I want to buy a set of Warn Premium hubs, but
my 1996's manual factory hubs have three bolts on them,
while the Warn kit has six bolts what do I need here?
Will a four point wheel bearing locknut removal tool work
on my hubs?
Thanks

You just need to buy the conversion kit for auto to manual hubs

The bolts on the outside of the locking hub have nothing to do with the spindle nut.

I put Warn Premiums on a '92 Bronco. No conversion stuff was needed.
Yes, the four-prong socket will fit it.

DO NOT BUY THE CONVERSION KIT.
You do need some pieces tho. The 96 should have the one big spindle nut thing on it. It does not take the 4 prong spindle nut socket. The tool costs over $100. Screw that tho. After you have everything dismantled downt to the rotor/hub and spindle(w/ nut on it) you'll have to get that nut off. What I did was wedge a pry bar in between the nut and the inside wall of the rotor/hub. Then use a lug wrench or pry bar under two of the lug nuts to rotate the hub/rotor counterclockwise. The prybar wedged in there will turn the nut along with it. It's on there with pretty good force so be ready to do some work. When you get that nut off THROW IT AWAY. Go to the Ford dealership and pickup the spindle nut/washer kit for about $13 for any 94 and earlier bronco or f150. The "kit" will contain 1 washer with little holes all the way around it and a tab on the inside. There will also be 2 "nuts" with 4 slots around the outside for the spindle nut socket to fit over. One of the nuts will have a tiny pin on one side.
FIND OUT THE TORQUE SPECS FOR SPINDLE NUTS ON A 94 BRONCO BECAUSE I CAN'T REMEMBER THEM.
Put the nut with the pin on first with the pin facing out. Torque it to whatever then slide the holy washer on the spindle(notice it will only go on in 1 position because of the little tab on it. Then put on the outside nut and torque it and reassemble everything. While you are in there you should replace the wheel bearings also.
Oh my gosh my fingers hurt. Did I cover everything?

Crank the inner nut to 50#, back off 1/4.

Slide on the lock ring, adjust as necessary to get the pin to line up with a hole.

Put the outer nut on, torque to 120-150#.

But FWIW, the internals of your standard issue Warn hubs should be identical to the premiums. The only difference is in the cap.

"Manual factory hubs" = Warn or Spicer hubs, depending on the MY.

Here's a page that talks about that dumb '96 nut and how to get it off (http://www.off-road.com/ford/bigbroncos/tech/rotor-hub.html)

I know Ford made changes to the 4x4 system, and
it disses me off that it has to be so complicated
Thanks for the advice
